Yes it's another one of those so so so FA in Dallas? threads. But I think he or Kris Jenkins (if he's healthy) can be very good stop gap/back up NTs for us as Josh Brent develops and for situations where we decide to move Rat around the line.

I can see him signing a 2 year deal with us. At this point he offers nothing as a pass rusher but he still has a lot of POA strength and can bring some attitude and rep from a number 1 ranked run defense something like 3 years in a row.

I don't think he's ever played a 3-4 but he's been NT in a 4-3 for a while now and is considered one of the best run stuffers in the league. No durability issues either.

Too old.

Too expensive.

Don't need stop-gaps.

Need players who'll be with this team for the next 5 years.

I would like to add, busted for steroid use to that list. That with age says that he would be a part-timers part-timer at best IMO.

Pat Williams would be a "Commander" type of signing.

No thanks.

I think Josh Brent is going to surprise a lot of people with how well he plays.

Don't want Pat Williams - would rather see what Josh Brent will do.

No thanks.

Let Rat/Brent hold it down and a possible draft pick to add to the competition.

It's not a bad thought at all *if* Ryan thought he needed a 2-gap NT. (And BTW Williams actually played in a 34 for Wade in Buffalo.) I thought I'd read that he said he might well retire, but maybe that was wrong.

I don't see how it would be a Commanders signing either... I think of those as vastly overpaying for vets with bad character or who just can't play anymore. Nobody is going to give a 39-year old NT a big contract in years or dollars. If anything it would be more a Parcells "hold the fort" signing.

But at least from what he's said, Ryan seems to think Rat can play nose for him.

Several years ago, we had a choice between him and Jason Ferguson. Woops.

Yeah, that was a bad move.

Just like the Rivera signing and the OT the team picked up from the Jets who broke down pretty quickly.

That Pacells was quite the personnel guy wasn't he?

Well, his old buddies Keyshawn Johnson and Richie Anderson produced for us, so it wasn't a total loss.

He's going to have to serve his drug suspension this year if he comes back, and he was the oldest defensive player in football last year. I'd say he's done.

Stop-gap NT?

Where the hell is the gap?

We have an All-Pro NT. Why would you sign anyone to play NT? Why the hell would we replace him with a stop gap?

Oh, let me guess. Because you think our All-Pro NT needs to be be moved to DE to create a gap at NT? Despite the fact that both Rat and knowledgeable defensive coaches (Phillips and Ryan) both think Rat is great at NT, you have decided that he needs to be a DE because he is not 350 lbs (or whatever reasoning you have).
