In a surprise move, the Patriots have cut cornerback Ras-I Dowling.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report that the Patriots made the move, and it was confirmed on the league’s transaction wire on Wednesday afternoon.
Heading into the 2011 NFL draft, the Patriots liked Dowling so much that they took him with the first pick in the second round (a pick they had previously acquired in a trade with the Panthers). And Dowling showed early promise, starting the first two games of the season.

Gotta say if this was Dallas cutting their 2nd round pick from 2011 (and actually it's a little worse than that because this guy was the 1st overall pick of the 2nd round) folks would be lighting torches, getting their pitchforks and looking for the Burgomaster to hunt down the Jones'.

For all the high picks that NE has traded for and "fleeced" in those trades, they seem somewhat mediocre at best at drafting.

His brother, Ras Al Ghul, was unavailable for comment.

The pick is even worse considering there were multiple teams offering up a first next year for that pick.

fwiw, he holds the all time INT record for a career in my Madden '12 franchise lol

by the same token, since the Patriots have cut a CB and weakened their secondary, they have virtually no shot at winning this year since history has taught us that teams with the best secondaries win championships

as evidenced by ravens, giants, packers, saints, steelers, and on and on

:)

I'd say the Ravens, Packers, Saints, and Steelers all had good secondaries when they won their super bowls.

i have no issue with what you said
the secondaries were 'good'

however, in looking at the actual teams that won those SBs, if you were to list 2 areas of strength for each team (that might have got them over the top), i dont think anyone would list "strong secondary" other than perhaps GB
