Patriots lost to the Bills in 2003 on opening day. 31-0. Brady had134 yds passing w/ 4 interceptions. Lost to WASH in week 4. And then proceeded to sweep. Never lost another game.

Lesson: Don't freak out either way, good or bad, about a team's first few games. Enjoy the win, then move on to root for the next game.

Certainly helps to turn things around when you have the GOAT at QB and arguably the GOAT at HC (sure fire HOFer to say the least)

Absolutely does.

However, that is not the point. The point is, it was just one game. Sometimes a game simply gets out of hand. Which is what happened last night. Of course, we had an extremely good D performance that helped it along, no doubt.

Cowboys lost on Monday Night Football mid-season 38-0 in 1970 and went to the Super Bowl that year

I don’t think anyone thinks we have done anything yet. It’s one game and it’s a long season.

Trends do matter though. The D has led the league in turnovers the last two years— and had three last night.

They have been a pressure D, and walked away with 7 sacks and a whopping pressure on 60% of the Giants passing plays.

They are continuing to build an identity. They walked into a rival’s house and butchered them like cattle, when lots of “pundits” picked the GMen for the upset. That was a playoff team last year.

It’s just one game, just one win, but it was damn impressive

Agree.

No, there are always those who scream greatness w/ a small sample size!! I'm excited myself, especially w/ the D. Man, we got some guys who can fly on that D!!

Neither of those things were true at the time though. If someone told you week 1 of 2003 that Tom Brady would go down as the best to ever play the game you would have laughed right in their face. You just never know...

Drawing any type of conclusions after Week 1 in the NFL has always been a challenge. Too many variables and way too much time left in the season for things to change. Enjoy getting that win and look forward to the next game.

This is true and point taken however Pats lost because one of their key defensive players (i forget his name but i think he was a safety or LB) was signed by the Bills and knew the scheme and signals

Next game was very different because Pats changed things up

Great post.

In 1970, the first year the Cowboys made it to a SB, they got beat 38-0 at home on Mon night in front of a national TV audience. It was humiliating. The Cowboys were 4-3 at that point of the season and did not lose a game again until SB V.

I was impressed very much by last night’s win. But it’s 1/17th if the season. Lots and lots of football left.

Sure— but to use the original example as a “for instance” to prove a point that one blowout loss doesn’t mean much ignores a whole slew of examples of teams that get massacred and blown out in weeks 1-4 and never did anything lol

There is always an exception to every rule, but to select an exception that history has shown is the most successful HC/QB tandem in history doesn’t really prove anything.

Plus— I don’t even know why the OP was made. I haven’t seen any Dallas fans proclaiming we just won the SB or anything lol. It’s a “let’s tap the brakes” post that is unnecessary considering the fact we have all experienced nearly 30 years of futility lol

Not sure how this is relevant at all

Show us the list of teams that have won 40-0 or better on the road week 1 and had poor seasons

That would be more appropriate

Chiefs lost to a team that’ll be barely over .500, Eagles barely beat a team that probably won’t reach .500, Bengals got blown out by a team that’ll also be around .500. Vikings lost to the Bucs, Packers looked all world against the Bears, and projected top-5 pick Rams completely dismantled an offseason darling.

Week 1 is the screwiest week every year. Dallas is good, NYG probably aren’t, and it was raining.
