Patriots Offer Aaron Hernandez Jersey Exchange To Fans
BOSTON (CBS) — New England fans who spent $100 or more to buy an Aaron Hernandez jersey in recent years were no doubt disappointed to see the developments of the past couple of weeks, but the Patriots announced Friday that they’re willing to help out.

The Patriots ProShop is offering a free jersey exchange to any fans looking to dispose of their No. 81 Hernandez jerseys, so long as they were purchased at the ProShop or at PatriotsProShop.com.

The exchange will be available the weekend of July 6 and July 7 and is good for a product of “comparable value.”

“We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys, but may not understand why parents don’t want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore,” Patriots spokesperson Stacey James said in the announcement. “We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop for another player’s jersey will be well received by parents.”

Hernandez switched to jersey No. 81 from No. 85 prior to the 2011 season, so the No. 81 distinction in the announcement would seem to indicate the deal is only good on somewhat recently purchased jerseys. Regarding all decisions on the exchange, the Patriots said that “the Patriots ProShop reserves the right to make all determinations regarding program validity. All determinations are final.”

Hernandez, 23, was charged with murder this week and remains under investigation for an unsolved double murder in Boston last July.

Jerseys and all other Hernandez memorabilia were taken off the team’s website shortly after the team released him on Wednesday. Most jerseys retail at the Patriots ProShop for $99.95, though authentic game jerseys sell for $249.95.

They simply don't want fans showing up to the games with AH jerseys. I suspect they will announce a ban on them in the stadium a few weeks before the preseason starts.

I can't see the team banning them, the must know some fans are still going to support him, also he hasn't been found guilty yet.

I definitely see it. You just know some people are going to doctor them up with bullet holes and fake blood. I think the last thing the Patriots want to see is fans on national TV wearing Hernadez jerseys and flashing gang signs to the camera. They can keep them out if they want to and I suspect they will.

People will get tired of it fast, if they do ban them fans will just find it a challange. No team has done it before, right?

Not that I know of but the Patriots are run very differently than most teams. I think Kraft is still smarting from the cheating scandal and PR is at the top of his list. This situation has now become much different than any other any team has ever faced. I agree it won't last and fans wearing the jerseys are likely to be treated harshly but I just think Kraft doesn't want any of that type of PR nightmare. It may not happen but I certainly could see them doing it, especially if there are any incidents during the first few games.

The Patriots image is not exactly crystal clear. They almost had to do something like this. As I've stated elsewhere, I wish them nothing but the worst. I don't know who I dislike more, Belechik or Brady........they are both crybabies.

I don't "know that" one bit.

You've obviously never been to a Patriots game, where the crowd is whiter than Wonder Bread. The only "signing" you'll see are the bluebloods in club seats ordering Perrier with their White Wine Spritzers.
They can keep them out if they want to and I suspect they will.
There will be no such policy.

A friend of mine brought up a disturbing fact, that with the way some depraved parts of society are fascinated with killers that his jerseys will probably be worth more now, and sure enough after a cursory ebay check saw quite alot of AH merchandise selling and some jerseys going for $200+ .

Personally I'd prefer this happen to them
