The Patriots' purge of veterans they signed in the offseason continues unabated. Carpenter's cut comes as a big surprise, as he was projected in most corners to be the Pats' top reserve linebacker. Carpenter has been an ineffective player for years, however, and holds little value outside of coverage and special teams. His release means more snaps for Tracy White and Mike Rivera.

It's funny how folks tried to use the "well the Patriots signed this guy so he must be good" angle and it turns out even the Patriots don't like them either.

IMO all of these signings/cuts point to a serious lack of depth with the Patriots. If they were deep and drafted so well like many proclaim they wouldn't be trying to sign a bunch of castoffs. I think we are seeing the end of the Patriots starting to crumble before out eyes.

Their receiving corps agrees with your last paragraph.

Yes and no.

The Pats have benefitted from a weak division and Tom Brady..once they lose Tom, they will return to being the Pats we remember.

Current theory is that we see Gaffney and or Branch back after Week 1 when their money isn't guaranteed.

The only significant play i can recall him making is when picked off Romo & ran it in for a td for detroit...great time to show up

We should have traded down that pick.
With hindsight they should have drafted Tamba Hali and they would have gotten their SOLB that can pass rush. They also could have traded way down and gotten Nick Mangold.
