And people still continue to say "Well, without Brady, they would be nothing".

No, they do have the best coach and from a personnel perspective, they do the little things to mitigate risk as well as any other team in the NFL.

Harris is a brilliant signing as it allows them to hedge their bets in case Donta Hightower is injured, as he has a tendency to get nicked up.

They are not veteran adverse. That is a good strategy in today's NFL where many teams overlook production, reliability and talent in favor of getting younger and cheaper.

The Patriots had built up a huge amount of cap space to spend just as Brady is hitting 40. Of course they've been going whole hog with FA and trades.

They've never been against signing veterans of course, but they usual spend more time in the bargain bin than this year. Even Randy Moss and Wes Welker were bargain pickups nobody else thought much of back in 2007.

This season is kind of an outlier for them.

I truly don't believe most Cowboy fans are adverse to signing veteran players. It comes down to specifics. Harris, for example is only 33 years old and is still productive and somewhat consistent. Compare that to Dwight Freeney who is 37 years old and really doesn't do a lot. If there was a veteran DE out there who was comparable to Harris in terms of ages and more consistent production he would be far more valuable to bringing into the fold than Freeney.
