Tedy Bruschi-LB- Patriots Aug. 30 - 11:07 pm et

Patriots inside linebacker Tedy Bruschi has decided to retire from football.

He'll make the announcement Monday at 10:45AM ET (Bruschi -- barely sleeps in on retirement day). A 13-year career Patriot, Bruschi captained three Super Bowl winners, registered five 100+ tackle seasons, and was a Pro Bowler in 2004. The former college defensive end played inside linebacker, outside, and end in pass-rush situations throughout his career. His October return from an offseason stroke earned him Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2005. Bruschi will likely fall short of the Hall of Fame, but is a shoe-in for the Patriots' Ring of Honor and may have his No. 54 retired.

Long overdue, in my opinion. Maybe they'll start to get younger on defense now.

congrats on a long, successful career, Tedy. Too bad it was with the asterisks*.

He won't. His family and his wife's family have been wanting this for a long time. He's a real good guy.

Yep, he is a good guy, nice family too. I have been wanting him to retire ever since he had the brain surgery. His family is more important than football. Glad he is retiring.

He should have plenty of film on opponents' retirement ceremonies to be very prepared.

He will.

He's loyal to the Pats, and wasn't going to make a fuss when it became evident he wasn't going to start, and couldnt play special teams.

Ever since his stroke if I remember correctly. He was a solid football player

Good guy, I suppose. Too bad about BALCO, he could have kept it up for a few more years had they kept it better under wraps.

With the retirement of LB Tedy Bruschi, the Patriots have called a "special press conference" this morning. The Patriots press room is decorated with photos of Bruschi and two of his jerseys hang above the podium. There are more than 40 reporters in Foxboro.
