or....they could have just paid Branch in the first place. The money wouldn't have been that much more, they would have a much better player than Welker, and they wouldn't be out a 2nd round pick.

If Daniel Snyder had tendered this exact same offer for Welker, we would be laughing our collective butts off. Instead, it's a savvy move by the Pats "brilliant" brain trust.

I don't see it, but what do I know. I'm not the genius Belichek is.

Well, the Pats did get a 1st round pick in return for Branch. Deion is a good receiver, but he was not worthy of a 1st round pick.

An extra 1st round pick and Wes Welker vs. Deion Branch and a 2nd round pick. I don't see too much difference in that. Maybe the Pats used that extra 1st round pick to gain Randy Moss. Who knows?

Maybe the Pats aren't making great moves right now, but they have made very good moves in recent years that brought them 3 SB wins. I will take that.

The difference between the Pats making this kind of move and Snyder making this kind of move is the position they are in. The Pats have been deep in the playoffs for several straight years and are a couple of decent if not good moves away from playing for another title. The Pats can afford to make this kind of move because they have a strong nucleus that they are building around. Snyder and the Skins have not had that kind of consistent success, so a single move like this on their part does not have the same kind of impact on their team. What are they building around?

Welker in New England is more of hoping to find a final piece to a puzzle. That would not be the case in Washington. The Skins last year signed a similar player in Randel El as more of a building block and that is not what he or Welker are in reality.
