Frank Tadych, of Patriots.com, reports the New England Patriots are believed to be within $1 million of the league mandated $80.5 million salary cap. The deadline in which the total of all players due compensation under 2004 contracts is Wednesday, Sept. 8. The contracts of all players on the active roster, injured reserve and practice squad will count against the cap.
