Big time red flags on Patterson and Montgomery when it comes to attitude and maturity.

Apparently Sam Montgomery all but admitted during interviews that he quit on LSU.

I just see Patterson having to much upside for teams to let him slip out of the 1st round.

Teams at the bottom of the 1st would bounce on this guy. Minnesota with 2 first rounders. Houston. Baltimore.

I agree. The Rams need a guy, too.

He does appear to have hurt himself in the interviews, though.

And the Rams have (2) 1st round picks. They would be smart to grab Tavon Austin with that #16 pick. If he's there.

In my opinion, any team would be smart to grab Austin. I think in a few years we will look back and say he was a top 5 player in this draft.

I could see the Patriots jumping all over him too if he were to fall to them. They're thin at WR.

there are always teams that will take someone based on talent and ignore the "personal" stuff...I can't see Patterson getting out of the first round

Richardson's probably got the highest ceiling of any DT in this draft.

I have liked him for a long time now and think if he was there he would be a good pick for the cowboys. Even though I would prefer them take one of the OGs if they were there...I could understand them taking him over those guys.

The only problem with him seems to be some attitude stuff that hopefully can be worked on.

Yes, the reason that I keep repeating, "If his character checks out OK, then he will get drafted before #18. If it does not check out, then the Cowboys won't draft him".

I don't think it's that binary. Character concern might be sufficient for a team or two to look elsewhere and for him to slide down to us. It doesn't follow that we'll have that same concern.

The whole RKG thing doesn't necessarily mean 'team leaders and choir boys.' I think Dez is a good example of a guy who's both clearly a RKG and clearly has character concerns. You can't overlook any character flaw and hope to build a good roster with that handicap. You have to make sure the flaws are the right kinds of flaws that you can work with while the player delivers on the field. Serious drug issues, laziness, a history of being divisive, these are things you can't overlook. Other concerns that might be more serious to the individual but don't have the same impact on the team's roster you can work around.

It is also possible the risk is not worth the reward at #5 but is more fairly priced at #18, not unlike Dez. Personally I think Richardson gets to us if Carolina feels like they need a target for their #1 overall qb and they love Patterson or Austin.

The stuff with him does not seem like some of the huge red flags like Honey Badger. But its is more issues of intelligence and maturity. And honestly if the guy is a worker that won't be suspended or balloon in weight, nothing else matters much at defensive tackle.

If a team has any issues with a players character then the team will probably take him completely off of their draft board. It's not as if Dallas would look at a player and say "His character issues make him not worth the 18th pick but if we trade down to #25 then he would be worth it".

Some teams might not take a player completely off their draft board, but won't draft those players in the top 3 or 4 rounds.

I could rephrase it and say "Richardson is too good to fall to #18 unless his character concerns are legitimate".

Never liked Patterson. He has talent, no denying that but, he believes his talent is so good that he doesn't have to learn the position IMO. WRs coming into the NFL usually take between 3 and 4 years to get it. Most of that is because the NFL is such a different game. It rarely matters how much natural ability you have. It matters how focused you can be, how detailed in your ability to run routes and catch the ball and how disciplined you can be in the approach to the game. It takes work to become a good WR in the NFL and you must be willing to put in the time. I don't see this out of Patterson. You could end up spending a lot of money and a high pick on another player like Plexiglass. A guy who has worlds of talent but takes a real long time to reach potential and then, to make a poor decision and see it go up in smoke. That's the kind of player I see Patterson as.

I like Allen and Austin a lot more then I do Patterson and those are really the only two WRs I like enough to be 1st round picks.

I think that's why he's not unanimously considered the top DT prospect in this class. He carries some baggage with work ethic and attitude questions.

But in terms of ability to be disruptive and collapse the pocket, he's blue chip all the way. There really isn't another on his level this year.

I would think Star L would be the top DT to me...

Depends on what you want. If you want a guy who can clog running lanes and free up LBs to make plays, you take Star. If you're looking for a penetrating upfield pass rusher, you take Richardson.

It's interesting that Montgomery "Quit" on his team and still had 3 times as many sacks as Mingo.
