Several reports from Rotoworld last week spoke of Cal’s Davis Webb being a top five quarterback in the draft. It should not come as a surprise as Davis presently rates as the fourth signal caller on our board, just ahead of Patrick Mahomes.

Webb is a nice sized passer who throws tight spirals which quickly get to the intended target. He’s relatively accurate and does a solid job spreading the ball around.

In time Webb could develop into a Sunday starter but needs to improve his throwing fundamentals and consistently deliver the ball with proper footwork. If he accomplishes this it will only enhance his accuracy.

The other highly rated Cal prospect, and a player we grade as a second day pick, is Webb’s favorite target Chad Hansen.

I would argue Hansen’s pass catching skills are on a par with any of the top receivers in this draft and he snatches absolutely everything thrown in his direction. Hansen regularly makes the acrobatic reception with defenders are draped on his back while consistently coming away with easy receptions.

The difference between Hansen being a top 45 selection and a bottom of round two choice is forty time. On film Hansen does not seem to have the foot speed necessary to separate from defenders and has to battle for most of his receptions.

Colorado has not had a player selected in the past two draft’s but will likely have multiple second day picks this April.

I’ve written about Chidobe Awuzie numerous times and believe he’ll be a second round choice. Not far behind is fellow Buff corner Ahkello Witherspoon.

Unrated by scouts entering the season, Witherspoon’s ball skills are close to equaling Awuzie’s and he’s taller than his teammate. Fast forty times next week could push him into the initial 75 picks.

During the previous five draft’s CU had a combined five players selected. This year alone they are likely to have five players on defense chosen by the time the draft is complete.

My how the mighty have fallen.

In the past it took me two days to complete the Oregon film work. This year I was done after a single morning.

One year ago I completed eleven individual scouting reports on Duck players and handed three of them draftable grades.

This year I’ll be doing five, maybe six reports on this once proud program, and not a single Oregon player grades as draftable on our board.

Contrary to Oregon, there could be several players from interstate rival Oregon State who slide into the late rounds.

The two players who intrigue me the most are cornerback Treston DeCoud and receiver Victor Bolden.

DeCoud is a big, physical defensive back who may ultimately move inside to safety. Bolden is a vertical threat that also lends a hand returning kicks. Both are underrated, both received combine invitations and in my opinion both will make active rosters in the NFL.

At the time of this writing I’m just beginning the Washington film. The Husky who really stands out is Budda Baker.

When I watch the film on Baker my thoughts are, wow, just wow! If there’s a player I would compare him to it’s the All Pro safety who plays just a few minutes from the Washington campus, Earl Thomas of the Seattle Seahawks.

If this is a remotely valid comp and he is there at 28, he would be an intelligent get. You saw what happened to the Seattle D when Thomas went down. Makes more sense than the 5th or 6th best pass rusher by then.

Definitely one of my bigger man crushes in this draft.

No question in my mind he will be one of those players that when they do a "re-draft" the following year gets picked much higher than he really was.

Love to get Baker even better if we can get him in a trade down if one of the pass rusher that we covet is not there. His size might hurt him a little. I have seen him compare to Bob Sanders also.

Pauline's take on Hansen is awful. That kid is absolutely explosive. There's a specific play that comes to mind where it almost looks cartoonish how fast he's accelerating past the DBs. I'll try to make a GIF of it when I get home.

I'm a fan of Webb as an absolutely raw but talented developmental QB prospect. That said he's nowhere near ready for playing on Sundays. On the range of college shotgun/spread schemes, Cal's is near the bottom in terms of complexity.

I like Budda's play a lot too but I worry about his size. Don't really care about his height all that much, but he's only listed at 180 pounds. Hopefully for his sake that # is old and he's closer to 200 now (although looking at him I'm not convinced 180 is too far off). Not sure if a player can realistically play S in the NFL for very long at that weight. Combine will be big for him.

Budda would not surprise me at 28. Talent-wise, he's not a reach there. If he was 6-1, he'd go higher.

He's a lesser Earl Thomas with some Honey Badger to him.

Anyone who rates Webb over Pat Mahomes should be immediately discounted from all football rankings.
I like both guys and watched them play PLENTY, including Webb in high school at Prosper.
He is not as accurate, has less consistency in his arm and far less athleticism or build.

PM has an upside to be the best QB in this class. Webb has back up QB in the NFL projections.
They really are not close.
One prominent NFL QB coach stated PM had the best pure arm talent they've seen since Favre.

Baker shouldn't be on list for us because we simply don't need a safety at 28.
So his warts become bigger for us.

Just draft the entire Colorado defensive backfield and then sign SAM/Edge Jimmie Gilbert as an UDFA.

RD2 CB--Chidobe Awuzie
RD4 CB--Ahkello Witherspoon
RD6 SS--Tedric Thompson

Webb and Mahomes are the two guys I would look at if Im drafting a QB in this draft. And Im doing so with the intent of spending 2 seasons bringing them along. Very high upside. I like Kizer amd Trubisky just as much as a raw prospects but I think they will go way too high. Webb and Mahomes are day 2 guys, although Mahomes can sneak into the back end of round 1. There is alot of QB talent in this draft, but its incredibly raw. Rawer then I remember any other draft being

Love Baker as a prospect, he plays the ball and has the skills to make a difference in the secondary.
