I’ve talked about the lack of arm strength from quarterback David Fales and how it will hold him back. Yesterday I spoke with sources from the San Jose State program who told me they were forced to take plays out of the Spartan playbook as Fales was unable to make the necessary throws.

- We spoke at length on the successful practice of Joel Bitonio. We hear several teams presently rank Bitonio fourth on their guard board.

- Finally, a number of quarterback coaches on hand who are employed by teams that do not need a signal caller say they have Blake Bortles of Central Florida rated as their top quarterback.

Brent Urban DL Virginia

6066 298 9 7/8 33 5/8

Mon: Definitely had his moments. Looks the part and often played to it. At times a man amongst boys but other times look awfully ordinary due to his unpolished game and inconsistent technique.

Tues: Improved from yesterday and showed a variety of ability. The combination of size and athleticism is very, very impressive. Can bend off the edge and at the same time overpower blockers. Has immense upside.

Dee Ford LB Auburn

6021 243 10 32 3/4

Mon: Lined up exclusively at defensive end. Applauded numerous times by coaches for taking direction, playing with great pad level and competing. Quick and fast but easily handled at the point.

Tues: WOWed scouts with his pass rush skill. Beat just about everyone around the edge showing incredible speed and quickness. Does a bit of wide edge rushing and a little one dimensional in that aspect.

Jeremiah Attaochu LB Georgia Tech

6032 252 9 3/8 32 7/8

Mon: Nice day from Attaochu. Lined up exclusively at outside linebacker and while he showed some stiffness in his game he was constantly around the action.

Tues: Did well in drills. Looked quick footed in reverse and showed better than average cover skills. Surprisingly was handled in pass rushing drills when coming out of a three point stance.

Gabe Jackson OL Mississippi State

6033 339 9 7/8 33

Mon: Good day from Jackson. He’s very quick, explosive and strong at the point. Really did not show much stiffness in his game.

Tues: Another good outing from Jackson. Looks very strong and easily held the point. I like the way he bends his knees and consistently block with leverage.

Jimmy Garoppolo QB Eastern Illinois

6022 219 9 30 1/4

Mon: Started strong then fizzled. Was on the same page as his receivers early on and to his credit has the quickest release of any signal caller on the North. By the end of practice he threw a number of wayward passes and struggled hitting targets.

Tues: Ineffective. Did not show the accuracy or timing as he did in the opening part of Monday’s practice.

Aaron Donald DL Pittsburgh

6007 288 9 7/8 31 3/4

Mon: WOW! Unstoppable all day. Looked good in weigh-ins despite his size deficiency, showing a strong physique and powerful lower body. Beat blockers all day with power, quickness, finesse and athleticism. Big winner of the day.

Tues: Not as dominant as yesterday but still had a good day. Shows a lot of variety in his game beating opponents with power, quickness and technique.

Ra’Shede Hageman DL Minnesota

6060 318 9 5/8 33 3/4

Mon: Showed flashes all practice long and why he has the ability to be dominant. Hageman was quick, athletic and powerful. He can be all over the place yet still disappears for stretches. At the top of his game he proved to be an unstoppable beast.

Tues: Just like yesterday but to a much greater extent. Started the day slow and at times was controlled by lesser opponents. Later knocked both Brandon Linder and Tyler Larsen on their ***** on separate plays. The skill is there but the consistency is not.

Wed:

=====================================================

DaQuan Jones DL Penn State

6034 323 9 3/8 32 3/4

Mon: Looks the part but just doesn’t make many plays. Fires off the snap, plays with good pad level and displayed a powerful lower body but cannot get off blocks.

Tues: Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Has every feature you want in a potential starter for the next level yet rarely made plays when it counts.

Wed:

=====================================================

Kareem Martin DL North Carolina

6057 272 10 34 3/8

Mon: Struggled all practice long. Plays with great leverage yet once blocked stays blocked.

Tues: Had a much better practice. Got revenge on Sentrel Henderson, knocking the big tackle off the ball and looked very athletic at times.

Trent Murphy LB Stanford

6053 252 10 7/8 33 1/8

Mon: Really liked the overall game Murphy showed today. He was able to hold the point out of a three point stance and never gave up an inch of room to opponents. Murphy also displayed a good deal of agility and easily moved about the field. In a nutshell he was stronger and more athletic than anyone thought.

Tues: Another good day for Murphy. Did not make as many plays on the ball but was constantly around the action.

Michael Sam/Mizzou looks great in drills at DE but has done nothing to make anyone believe the transition to OLB will be quick or easy.

Tahj Boyd/QB/Clemson better today but still no more than a last day pick IMO. Logan Thomas/Va Tech looks awful.

G Cyril Richardson, Baylor - Continued to struggle with his balance. When Richardson was asked to use power, he wins. But, his lateral quickness has been exposed as a weakness. He’s definitely lost the leverage battle against 6’ Pitt DT Aaron Donald. He clearly matches up better against power players like Penn State DTDaQuan Jones.

S Jimmie Ward, Northern Illinois - A group of Mobile, AL area elementary kids started a “JIM-MIE WARD” chant for homeboy and top safety from NIU Jimmie Ward. After a wonderful career as a Husky after leaving the south, Ward was definitely a player to watch. He’s not disappointed in the slightest. He’s comfortable in coverage, tracking slot receivers as any safety in Mobile. He plays with range in the middle of the field in coverage in cover one/three. He had another solid day on Tuesday.

DE/OLB Marcus Smith, Louisville - Had a strong day, showing his ability to transition to a 3-4 OLB and playing standing up. He’s proven from a movement standpoint that he can fit at that position. He didn’t shine from a pass rush standpoint from a stand up position but that might take a little bit of time. He was comfortable dropping in coverage and and knocked down a pass after dropping on one quick throw during practice. He’s not as violent with his hands, especially on his pass rush, but the athleticism and scheme versatility should raise his profile in the eyes of the NFL scouts.

WR Jared Abbrederis, Wisconsin - Continues to get open. All day, every day. His route running is just so good and he’s having little trouble getting off of press coverage. The only other receiver making more of an impact is…

R. Hageman hasn't jumped out much here. But he's someone multiple NFL teams covet 4 his ability to play 5-Tech w/ such athletic frame. #Minn

Ask teams here in Mobile about quarterback Logan Thomas and you’ll find he’s all over boards, being graded anywhere from a second to a fifth round pick. I get the idea there’s a general feeling teams really wanting to like Thomas. He has the physical skills teams desire and many point to constant coordinator changes at Virginia Tech as a major problem in the development of Thomas.

- I’m told Shayne Skov purposely sat out the Senior Bowl in order to ready himself for the combine. Fair enough. Yet despite all the preparations the feeling is the dominant college linebacker won’t run faster than 4.8-seconds in Indianapolis.

- Staying on the Stanford theme, I was told a month ago none of the Cardinal underclassmen who asked for a grade from the advisory committee was stamped as anything better than a third round prospect. That story was confirmed at the Senior Bowl.

- Many were surprised when USC center Marcus Martinannounced he was leaving for the draft. Not included in “many” were NFL scouts. The word in Mobile is Martin could be the first center selected in the draft.

LOL! What? This guy could not hit water from a boat and is a poor decision maker.

One prospect who has scouts intrigued in Mobile is Seantrel Henderson/T/Miami. Teams love his size and athleticism as well as his movement skills and the way he flashes dominance. His propensity to make silly mistakes (jumping offsides, etc) is a major concern and teams are concerned about his ability to take direction. In a nutshell Henderson grades out as a first rounder physically but between the ears he’s more of a free agent prospect.

- There’s a need for interior pass rushers in the NFL and teams feel two of the draft’s best are on hand at the Senior Bowl. They rank Aaron Donald of Pittsburgh as the best interior pass rushing defensive tackle in the draft with Will Sutton of Arizona State number two. Surprising that Sutton ranks ahead of a few of the well known prospects.

- The Cleveland Browns organization is not getting much respect here at the Senior Bowl. The attitude towards the Browns, specifically the front office, from personnel people around the league has ranged from disparaging to downright nasty. Several comments were passed at the South’s afternoon practice that few are surprised the Cleveland franchise cannot find a head coach considering “those in charge”. In fact choice adjectives were used by front office people here in Mobile to describe “those in charge” in Cleveland.

Packers scout not alone in feeling Tajh Boyd/Clemson undraftable. Another league insider told me they would not use a draft pick on the QB.

One thing I heard from a number of personnel execs in Mobile: Probably 10-12 players in this draft are better than ANYONE in the '13 draft.

Expand

Well some of those Personnel execs should be smacked.

I don't see one OG in this draft class as good as Cooper.
I don't see RBs in this draft class that are better than Bernard or Lacey..maybe good as but not better.
I don't see any TE's in this draft better than Eifert ...maybe as good but not better.
IMO the only player in this draft that has the potential right now to be better than any player MIGHT and a big MIGHT be Clowney. And I am not even convinced of that.

So Those execs need some medication IMO.
