Paying the wrong guys leaves you treading water

Jaylon and Zeke were the huge mistakes. No problem paying Amari, he’s a true #1 and our WRs can’t get open without him. Tank was by far the best D player we had when we paid him. He’s still a very very good player. I thought we should’ve gone after Wilson when there were rumors he may be available….of course it would’ve cost us Parsons. I really think were it not us, someone else would’ve paid Dak what he got. So mixed about that…and I’m not quick to forget how long it took us to find a QB between Aikman and Romo. Maybe he keeps us trapped between good and great but I do think he’s better than a ton of starters in the league right now, at least half.

Dak at times plays like a top 5 player. Zeke has the dumbest contract in history. Amari will
cost them Gallup. Bad contract. Lawrence is a good player but very rarely dominant.

Cooper won't cost them Gallup. they can easily move on from Cooper this offseason if they want to and re-sign Gallup.

good players are expensive.
welcome to the nfl.
don't be mad at the players.
get all you can get while you can.
ain't my money.

Every team pays there top players. Amari, DLaw, and Dak would have received top dollar if they were free agents. I don’t know about Zeke but that is hindsight. The big four got the team to the playoffs this season. Let’s see what happens when the games get real. Let’s stop speculating off of a three point loss to a quality team. Arizona is really good. No matter if we won or lost yesterday. I think they are going to win their division next week because the 49ers will beat the Rams.

I'm not speculating off one game. This has been a theme with this team for 25 years. Again, are those guys top five players at their positions?

As for the playoffs, this isn't their first rodeo. We've seen these top five guys in the postseason. I don't expect different results, but we'll see.

What other teams may or may not have done does not concern me.

I'm not mad at the players. I'd take Jerry's money, too. But when you have a cap you have to make smart managerial decisions.

We're not talking about "good" players when you're paid top five in the league at your position. Those are supposed to be "great" players. Are they?

So what were our options when they were signed? Only player I can see that was clearly a bad contract when they were signed is Zeke.

i'd rather have them than not.

Dak is the closest to a top 5 of that group. The Cowboys tax is real. It will be an interesting offseason with guys like Gregory.

Dallas has four players who are in the top five paid at their positions: Dak, Zeke, DLaw, and Amari. Do any of them look like top five players at their positions?

Being able to distinguish good players from great ones is essential to making smart personnel decisions in the salary cap era. The Cowboys front office has made this mistake too often since their last SB, and we've seen the results.

Exactly. probably the main priority of any general manager is to be able to evaluate your own talent properly and pay them accordingly. We have not been good at this

I blame the Zeke deal on JG. He was fighting for his job and made them get him back.

Only one guy on this list has top 5 ish numbers on the season.

The others are all overpaid.

The one actually performing gets the most heat for apparently not.

Go figure.

I would redo the Cooper & Dlaw contracts again in a heartbeat. I'm not a fan of paying RBs so I certainly wouldnt redo the Zeke deal. Dak I would have been cool with moving on, but you need a real backup plan if your going to move on from a decent QB. It's not like Andy Dalton was going to lead us to the super bowl this year.

So the 35mm differential knowing you still fail is better?

I was all for tagging Dak with the franchise tag to get 2 1st round picks, would have even negotiated a 1st and 2nd, whatever. We still get Parsons and maybe Mac Jones? Have 40 million extra cap space for defense or Oline?

people want a singular point and player to hate and pour it on. its easy to do that for them...blame one guy...

but the fact is this team has been this very same team for 25+ years....it was the same with Romo, he had his supporters and those who hated him. when Romo left, the haters didn't know what to do. it will be the same with Dak....singular obsession....

the GM put this team in this position. the failure lies with him.....

Dak 100% worth every penny. Easily top 7 QB.

Zeke is the worst of the bunch.

"Knowing" you'll fail is a bit of a stretch... I'm all for some Dak bashing, but we are going a little too far here. It's not like the guy is completely hopeless and can never win another game. He is capable of so much more, hes just not performing right now. I'd rather be mediocre with the potential to strike fire down the stretch than be mediocre and have a ceiling of mediocre.

We need a real GM, unfortunitly , we don't have one.
