Penalties... No Tashard Choice

My only two complaints with this win.

The penalties...we all know, they have to be cleaned up because over the long haul, we'll pay with a loss. Don't know what to say that hasn't been said in terms of getting and keeping these down. But games would be so much easier if we got out of our own way.

No carries for Tashard? This one really burns me. Especially when Barber isn't healthy. Especially when Felix isn't healthy. Especially when this kid has proven time and again against the league's best he can get it done. What more does he have to do?

I'm as confident as can be without being an actual soothsayer to guarantee he would've averaged better than Barber's 3.4 YPC. Right now, Barber's value is in his blocking and emotion. Cue the clip with Tashard pumping up the huddle...so that's a wash. Choice is our regular 3rd down back so his blocking is definitely good enough to get the job done. So that leaves actual production.

Even healthy, Barber doesn't have Choice's burst, vision or quickness, even moreso now. Major fail IMO on Garrett/Skip Peete's behalf. I guess someone else nailed it in another thread when they said that Choice's touches would be limited when Wade singled him out for having to be involved in the offense.

Again, overall, loved the effort across the board and the win, but this burned me up because it was clear the run game needed a spark and IMO Choice could've provided it, helped TOP, and also slow down the blitz.

Respectfully disagree bigtime. Miles, Felix.... Not Choice.

I kept thinking during the game, where is Choice? There were more that a few opportunities to get him some carries but it just never happened. Barber didn't get rolling until the 4th quarter so you have to wonder what Garrett was thinking.

How is it that EVERY fan in the stadium was not on their feet booing at the top of their lungs at about the third flag on the o-line?

It's flat out embarrasing and will continue to lose us games if it is not corrected.

Barber is the better all around back right now. He is able to pick up blitzes and did so again yesterday which lead to some big plays for Dallas.

Honestly, I think Garrett just "forgets" about him because the running game is not a priority with him. I think it's work for him to remember Felix, but can do so more because of the "explosion" Felix potentially represents.

Just in terms of "grinding it out" and wearing someone down is not in Garrett's thought processes. If it were, he would recognize 1) Barber's still laboring and not able to make the holes consistently; and 2) Choice can and does everytime he gets the opportunity.

IMO, this is where Garrett needs the "help." To be reminded that basics are good. Wade, even though he says it in his PCs ("running game important...Choice needs to be involved..."), obviously won't or doesn't emphasize it to Garrett in games. Or Garrett just ignores him if he does.

Hard to argue against an offense that looked pretty good and would have looked far better if they would just stop committing these incredibly dumb false starts.

I realize they won this game, but there is no way in high heaven they will continue to win games in December and beyond taking dumb drive killing penalties.

No, he's not. Choice can block as well, which is why he is the third down back. He also made blocks that allowed for plays down the field yesterday. Choice has better vision, better burst, better balance and quickness. Top end, when Barber's healthy, probably still goes to Choice. Add in he's produced against the best defenses the league has to offer, as well.

Plus, and most importantly, Barber's not healthy. I'm not downing Barber. Even though I believe the bulk of his carries should be at the end of the game.

I'm saying there are no negatives, only positives to utilizing Choice, especially while Barber is not healthy.

Barber is the better blocker sorry if you don't believe that. This is not to say Choice can't block but I think the staff has a bit more faith that Barber will keep Romo standing more so than Choice. Not a knock on Choice but the staff believe it or not sees these guys thought out the week there is a reason they play certain guys more than others. I know fans like to think they know best fact is they don't they do not know half of what the coaches see throughout the entire process. There is so much crap people come up with from Wade does not want to hurt feeling? This staff knows their players better than Any of us.

Given the overall performance of the offense, I'm not concerned about Choice's lack of carries. Heck, he'll only be fresher when he's pressed into service again.

I don't think Garrett is very comfortable having Choice pick up blitzes - when Barber is obviously better.

Speaking of which, there was a series of plays yesterday when Garrett used Felix Jones much like Parcells used Tyson Thompson --- If he's in, give him the ball (because it's safer than having him block.)

Choice has shown he's a pretty good blocker too. Aikman has mentioned it in a couple of games also. They all blocked well yesterday including Felix, who may have had the best game of the three in that department.

I'm not arguing against it. I just thought better utilization of personnel could have been accomplised with respect to the backs, particularly since Barber is clearly not healthy.

Agree completely with your other point (penalties), which is why I singled that out in my OP. We are truly our own worst enemy the majority of the time.

Thanks for making my point. So on obvious passing downs you want your lesser blocker in, that's what you're saying right? That's what the coaches want?

This seems to be the argument against...that Barber is the better blocker. Barber is the more physical blocker, but Choice is just as good. Why else the coaches have him as the 3rd down back - obvious passing/blitzing down?

I have yet to see a good reason for not utilizing this guy for some carries, particularly while Barber is obviously not healthy. Extend drives, burn time, less risk for Romo.

Not knocking Barber, just saying the idea is to get your best players on the field. I think that's pretty universal.

No in many of those instance Choice is going out on the pass rout and came up with a big catch for 23 yards. Being in on 3rd down does not make you just the blocker.
