What concerns me is them selling out to rush the passer. They got caught last week and now they will adjust. The run defense will be better but the pass rush isn't nearly as elite as it appeared. I'm expecting a good, not dominant defense ros.
That’s one of the issues we’re sack happy. If we focus on trying to defend the run, our pass rush is likely to drop off some. The first line of defense is stopping the run. If you can’t do that you’re not going to win many games.

It's the pre-snap flags that drive me crazy. No discipline. Be smarter.

Next up would be the holding calls. Sometimes I see the replay and just SMH and wonder what they are thinking.
That’s where good coaching comes in. Belichick taught his receivers how to execute perfect pick plays and not get flagged for it.

I remember some old school coaches I had used to say most penalties are a result of a lack of mental focus. Lazy mental mistakes. That certainly seems to match what the Cowboys seemed to be doing last Sun. Poor focus and lazy mental mistakes. Pre-snap penalties exemplify this.

For example, lining up offsides on defense is mind numbingly stupid. Middle school kids know better.
Crazy how it seems like they just flicked a switch, first 2 weeks they were fine

It’s a fair question because I usually always hear “ selling out to stop the run” which of course means Strongly committing most or all of the defense to stopping the running game at all cost, which in this context, means pretty much forgetting about defending the pass, or significantly opening up their pass defense to focus on stopping the run. This can be achieved by blitzing more to stop the run, taking out DB's and subbing in more LB's and D-linemen, loading the box pre-snap, etc..

don’t blame me if it’s a run on sentence………I got it off Reddit.

They aren't maintaining their run assignments and are attempting to get to the qb at all costs.

This is an exact repeat of last year.

It's why I expect run d gets better but pass rush was a bit of a mirage. It will be great situationally, but if we are playing with respect to the run game it's not going to be the free for all we saw the first two weeks.

YOUR FIRST SENTENCE IS SPOT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the biggest issue with our run D that I see, also the LBS not making plays is a close one to it!

Flag flag flag, i'm not one to blame the refs, at times they do make calls that favor the other team. Then on the other hand, we shoot ourselves in the foot with stupid mistakes (Offsides, False Start, Holding, Illegal Block in the back etc) How do we get these fixed to help ourselves out in the long run? Please give your thoughts
You know we were fewest in the nfl for the first two weeks right?

Someone posted last week that false starts were called more often in Cardinals Stadium than any other. I thought at the time what a weird stat.

Then game time comes.....
I get we had 3 backups in the game. But comon' man!!!

Been our problem for a quarter century now. Also doesnt help when your owner/gm tries to get the commissioner fired.

The average amount of penalties committed overall by all NFL teams in 2022 was around 5 penalties per game. The Dallas Cowboys average last year was at 6.12 penalties per game. Just to be fair, let's give the team a limit of 7 penalties per game as a peak limit in 2023.

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/what-is-the-average-penalties-per-game-by-an-nfl-team-in-2022

If the team commits more than 7 penalties in a game, make them all push a 5 man sled with a coach and a water boy standing on/behind the sled for added weight. Make the team in groups of 5 push that sled 200 - 250 yards, followed by firing out, staying low and running through a chute, followed by 1-on-1 blocking/tackling, followed by sprints and finish it off with having to run a mile at the end under 10 minutes. That gives them 2.5 minutes per lap of leeway to run. If they don't run the mile under 10 minutes, make them do 100 yard crab crawls and 100 yard duck walk exercises back-to-back. All of the throwing up, body trembling and wanting to pass out will definitely force them to start focusing and taking being a Dallas Cowboy much more seriously. No more spoiled country club atmosphere. That's the best way to get these players disciplined, focused and molded into taking being a Dallas Cowboy seriously while lowering those game penalties. If a player refuses to complete such discipline, give him his pink slip and wish him well elsewhere with some other team.
