Found it interesting. Mike Periera was quoted in some article I read saying he thinks there’s about 4 calls per game that shouldn’t have been called based off film he’s watched. I blame the commissioner more than the refs personally he’s the one whose made the game what it is they’re just following orders even if it makes them look bad every Sunday

Penalties are really dragging the game down. The biggest off-season focus better be to get that fixed. Outside of personal foul calls, there is no need to throw a flag when a penalty has no impact on a play. How many petty illegal contact calls during sacks or holding penalties on touchbacks are necessary? Pick the darn thing up if it has no impact on the play.

Penalties per game has been pretty consistent for a decade
Some types of penalties get called more in a given year. I would guess holding calls are up this year. But the overall number stays pretty steady each year

Yep. It’s horrendous. Anytime Zeke breaks a big one I don’t even jump up because I’m waiting to see yellow laundry

Every game is a flag fest. I hate referees, wish some nfl players treated the refs like this wrestler does:

LOL, thought the Saints - Steelers game was live, fricking replay.

When you hear the commentators 3 or 4 times a game saying a team got away with a blatant call or saying there was nothing there then it’s a problem. I have watched our games that a head turning face mask in front of the refs don’t get called but a ticky tack call gets called right after.

Its the complete lack of consistency that grates at me. How freaking hard can it be to get everyone on the same page and call games consistently on both sides of the ball? Oh and have all the crews adopt the same standard. Its like the first half of the game you have to figure out which type of refs you're dealing with.

20 teams have had more penalties called against them than the Cowboys?

That doesn't fit the Goodell-Mara conspiracy narrative.

Goodell is so mad right now. His plan to alter the Cowboys chances of winning by having his minions throw flags and blow whistles during the game fell short while the Giants are waving a few white flags themselves after their newly signed local DJ/xstacy dealer “OBJ” promised 10 straight wins and a playoff spot.

This is a big one. And many of these away from the play penalties are borderline or questionable. If they clean that up the game would be much more enjoyable to watch.

The secondary problem is each ref seems to interpret the rules differently. The idea behind not hitting a defenseless WR was because DBs used to tee off on WRs going over the middle even if the ball was 12 feet over their heads or a bounce pass. But for some reason the way the rule is written gives some refs the idea this applies to players that actually catch the ball. Look at the way it's written...

"A receiver attempting to catch a pass who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player"

Hate what has happened to the game I love... too many times refs are determining the outcome of a game. Should never happen

There are several rules that need to be changed to balance the game, and IMO— they should expand replay capabilities to include over-turning a penalty or calling a correct infraction

I would trade length of game time for the chance for my team to challenge a horrid call or point out a hideous non call that can affect our chances of winning.

Can you imagine what might have happened in 2016 if we could have highlighted the horse collar tackle on Irving on Rodgers miracle throw to Cook?

I don't relish the big decleater hits & understand the player's concerns for serious injuries, but most calls interfere with the game too much.

I followed the link and looked at various slices of data. What is interesting is that even though we have an average amount of penalties against us, we have the lowest called penalties against our opponents.
This holds true for both number of penalties and the total yards from them.

That is a bright red flag right there.
