This doesn't mean anything really. I bet carolina is just looking to get something for him. Nobody is giving them a first rounder anyway, and I doubt the panthers are looking to trade him into thier own division.

If the panthers get offered a 2nd or 3rd round pick, they may take it. Get something out of him.

So he doesn't have to sign it?

Nope. He doesn't have to sign it at any time at all. Of course, as the season gets near, franchised players usually sign the offer so they can start getting paid, but since players don't start getting their paychecks until the season starts, there's no hurry for the tagged players to sign.

What do you mean " as long as the money fits " ?
That both teams need to fit the contracts under their allotted cap room.

Just once, I'd like to see a team get stuck with a huge contract for a player they don't want and who doesn't want to be there.

I'd like to see the rest of the league say "no thanks", you pay Peppers $16 million to be a disgruntled player for you this year.

Or let the Patriots pay Matt Cassel $12 million to ride the bench!

So teams should just let players who they developed walk?

Boy, that's a great idea.

So if he never signs it, he can be an UFA?

Peppers wasn't coming to Dallas.

It was a wet dream that shouldn't have gotten to the moist stage.

I think they should let players they have no designs on keeping walk rather than this farce.

I don't question the shrewdness of the moves, but more the absence of integrity involved.

If the Panthers want Peppers bad enough to put a $16 million tag on him I think they deserve to keep him.

No, I'm sure they didn't want to lose him for nothing. Better to try to at least get something, plus have some insurance in case Brady's knee is slow in coming around.

But I still think Cassel is average as can be. If some team gives up very much for him, they'll be stupid IMO.
cassell is a very average qb

he often strugggles with accuracy and often misses open recievers. he best games can againgst bad teams and poor defense and he stunk it up when he played againgst the better teams in the league.

im not sold at all on cassell but the patriots will find a sucker to take him for a high price

I'm changing my mind on all of this. I dont' think Peppers is going anywhere. He'll play for the franchise tag money in Carolina.

Case closed.
