idk man. I'm just not feeling like TE is that big of a hole for us to use a 1st rounder on. Getting Martellus Bennet/Gavin Escobar vibes from it where we're going to be sitting here a few years from now wondering why we spent such a high pick on the guy who averages 500 yds and 4 tds a year. Would rather it be on a position on the OL or DL but guess we'll see though.

Well you would be wrong

The question is whether Mayer is the guy to take or not. There is a gaping hole at TE

Yeah exactly, and no he isnt. I am so sick of this team (who actually admitted) their prototypical TE is from the 90s.

Its 2023. My God.

I’m not sure they’re being honest about that. But I’m also not sure I don’t believe it haha

Oh no. They are being honest. Hence the report that they are completely out on Washington lol.

I’d be fine with drafting Mayer. If we stand pat with Fergy, Hendershot, and McKeon(?) entering into the season and one of those guys get injured, we’re suddenly talent short there (I don’t consider Hendershot or McKeon as special talents).

Although TE is not my top choice, if he were to put up Witten-like numbers from early in his career, I can't say I'd be upset with that. I know we have the what-ifs with Ferguson and Hendershot, but I'm OK with whatever makes TE a viable threat.

The only positions I have a problem with us taking in the first round is CB and WR because of what we did to address those positions through trade, but I can even see the reasoning for that. I prefer a DT or OT/G but also prefer that the Cowboys don't reach to make those happen.

I don't recall many situations in recent years that made me say "oh man, a better TE would've really taken us over the hump". I saw some potential in hendershot and ferguson, so i guess we can just agree to disagree on it being a gaping hole.

yea i'd agree on not wanting us to go for WR or reach on DT/OL but TE just doesn't scream 1st round need to me right now...but if he's a immediate difference maker, then i'll happily eat crow. I'm just scarred by all the Witten replacements that came and went lol.

Yeah and so what? You still need your TE to block; no matter what some clowns think.
Yeah it would be nice to have one that can catch the ball and run after that. Not the Witten mould of catch and fall down for 3 yards when we need 8

Truth is I was never was that up on Ferguson, he looked like a decent TE. But Mayer better have at least an 800 yard season with 9 TDs or we in the draft zone are rioting.

editing his Tds to 9 because they need a real redzone target.
