Per AM 570 in Los Angeles: Kobe to Dallas

What hurts more than anything as a Mavs fan is that they had a championship-caliber if not unstoppable team going into the 2006 Finals along with a franchise player who had made The Leap in Dirk. And then they came a handful of minutes away from being 3-0 in the Finals and then CRASH. It was like watching a movie where the main character you've been rooting for the whole time gets to the climax of the movie where as you've seen time and again he's supposed to stand up for the cause and get the girl and save the world and all that, but instead he chickens out and gets run out of town and the bad guy gets the girl and then BAM the credits roll. What the crap!!
Hopefully a Cowboys Super Bowl this year can help ease your pain! :)

You may have more talent... not sure about being a better "team" though.

ya ask D'antoni about that...

"we have more talent than they do, but we just cant beat them for some reason" hmmm i wonder why??? maybe cuz your getting powned by pop, the best coach in the league? ps spurs are the best team in the league, no trade will change that. now whether supreme talent can beat supreme team is another story all toguether.

That would be awesome. It certainly won't be the Stars or Rangers doing it.

Luckily, I'm still riding the 2006 Rose Bowl wave so it's not all bad.

I heard this rumor as well and it does have some backing now in high places.

Marc Stein(ESPN) suggested it will happen.

Kobe has placed Dallas at the top of the list because they can win with him and Dirk while still offering the Lakers some serious compensation.

Kobe has a no trade clause and can opt out in 2 years so the Lakers' hand is forced.
Not to mention they aren't winning with the current roster anyway.

As Dallas GM I jump all over the deal.

Josh, Jet, KVH expiring contract, 2 firsts.

Dallas with Kobe as the go to guy down the stretch and on ball defender becomes easily the odds on favorite.

Dirk will still get his 20+ and double digit boards. He did so with both Fin and Nash here. He doesn't need the offense running through him to score. Kobe driving in drawing double teams then kicking to Dirk is going to lead to a lot of friggin points.

Dirk's favorite player was Scottie Pippen. Now he gets to fill that role if this deal does go down.

KVH sucks so Lakers would be stupid to take him. If I was Lakers GM, I wouldn't take Howard, Jet, and scrub KVH for Kobe, noway. I would demand Dirk to be included in the trade.

I'll believe this when i see it

as a mavs fan i've learned over the past few years not to get my hopes up about anything mavs anymore :(

It would be The Expiring Contract of KVH - not KVH. There's a difference. The value is not in the player but in payroll, cap space, and trade value.

See previous seasons involving The Expiring Contract of PJ Brown, The Expiring Contract of Penny Hardaway, etc.

I'm the one with a bag over my head, but I cannot say I can't get my hopes up for my team. I call it more 'guarded optimism', if that's any difference. I don't talk trash or brag about season records. I question statistics that predict future championships. But whenever they do win one, and I still believe that will happen with this team, I will appreciate that moment more than I would have two years ago.
