Per JG: 4 and 16

The run was a designed lead qb draw. Let's start calling Dak a playmaking qb. And stop saying everything has to be perfect for him.

How did you come to that conclusion?

Because he ran for a first down?

And yes it was clearly a designed run. Probably Linehans best playcall in Dallas.

I’d like to see a lot of QB draws and designed runs for Dak.

Um, are you talking about the run on 3rd and 14?

It was a great run, but let's be honest here, that's not a playcall designed to pick up a first down. You call that because a) you don't trust your downfield passing game there and b) you just want to eat some clock before kicking a field goal.

No way to confirm that one way or the other. What we do know is this:

The defense was expecting pass
We went against our tendencies
It absolutely fired up our entire team and won us the game

IMO-- the play was called in based on the defense's personnel on the field, and if they saw a certain look-- they run the draw. If not-- then Dak kills it. They got the look they wanted and Dak executed the HELL out of it and it is now part of our franchise's proud playoff history.

I guess worst case they stop us and we kick a FG there-- but IMO-- it was brilliant, gutsy call that showcased the best of Dak Prescott

Have you watched the Cowboys under JG and Linehan? Conservative plays on 3rd and long is par for the course under this regime. They're so turnover averse, that they don't even try to make plays in this situation. It's basically the same playcall as the screen to Amari on 3rd and 10.

Garrett actually said they did not expect to get the 1st down! I don't think it is a great playcall but I think its odds of succeeding are as good as Dak trying to throw it into the endzone.

The guy is a gamer.

The Cowboys know this and rally behind him till he gets it going.

We as fans live in a test tube called the internet.

It's Fantasy.

The team plays in the here and now like a back street brawl.

Thank goodness the team knows who they are.

Fans have no clue really.

We just think we do be cuz we own a tablet.

It's ridiculous.

The most impressive play to me was the TD to Gallup. The first throw was abysmal but the second one was perfect. It's been one of my criticisms of Dak, that on deeper balls, he rarely seems to give his WRs a chance to make a play, especially sideline types throws. But that throw to Gallup was a thing of beauty. I hope to see more of that against the Rams and beyond.

It had nothing to do with not trusting the passing game.
If they didn't trust the passing game, we would all be on here complaining they pass it inside the 5 when they should be running it.

It was the play call at the time, and it worked. If it didn't work, then you would be saying, why in the heck didn't they pass it.

They weren't inside the 5, what are you talking about?

This is a classic run the ball and eat some clock before a FG playcall. The Cowboys do it all the time, even when it means punting.

I'm actually fine with running the ball there and taking the 3 points with this defense and a lead. It's the 500 other times a game they make the same playcall that bothers me.

9.7 out of 10 times he is stopped short of the first.

How is that a good playcall?

Because it worked, lol.

Honestly, I'd rather they did that than a screen pass or attempted pass in that situation. It was the best call for the moment. My best guess is that if they got 10+ they would have considered going for it (rather than take the field goal). Or at lesat, they should have. Being up 7 was not going to be enough.

Well..

they are going to have to change this tendency to throw the corner fade going forward.

Teams will be prepared for it.

Linehan has to see this and be a step ahead or its going to be intercepted like the one on Saturday that got intercepted.

Just saying.

I didn't listen to Garrett's presser yet... lol

Well-- if they weren't expecting a first down-- that changes the call from 'brilliant" to "we are lucky Dak's a grown #$% man".

I recorded the NFL channel version of the game and watched that 3rd and 14 play over and over again and in slow motion and it was somewhat miraculous. They had one shot of it from a sky angle and at one point during the run it was like the Hags best, most aggressive tackler (MLB - Wagner) whiffed or gave up on the play at the five yard line. I'm still mesmerized by that.
It was reminiscent of that NYG defender that whiffed on Jarwin for his TD run after his catch.
