This off of the GMB:

Mortensen and ESPN are reporting that the Giants are listening to offers for Shockey (something they haven't done in th eprevious years), and while they aren't pressed to trade him, they would definitely consider doing so if a better offer than the Saint's 2nd round choice comes along! Things could start happening this week!

I would of took the Saints 2nd rd offer personally.....Boss is good

I hope the Giants do trade him to a team outside of the NFC East. When his head is on right he is a beast and has always played pretty well against us.

I would rather face Boss any day of the week.

I called this as soon as the Giants started playing better when Cancer #2 wasnt on the field.

Tiki and Shockey were cancers.

..let's hope somebody steps up to the plate for Shockey.

Hopefully in Cleveland or to the Titans or some team far far away from our division.

I am surprised though that they would actually consider letting him go. Love him or not, he's an immediate concern to any defense when he's on the field and opens up other WRs to get open because of the coverages he receives.

Not to mention the balls he catches on 3rd down and the redzone.

Maybe this is just a stick in his eye to get his attention to get his behavior in order.

I don't think any of this is serious unless some team is looking at TE as a high draft priority and they think they have a team already in place to challenge.

His salary has to be a chunk of change at this point to do a trade, sort of like we are dealing with in RW.

Hmm..hope it happens though.

But what are the Jints thinking here..? I realize they won the SB and they have decided Coughlin is their coach for the next 4 years (right, not), but I don't think you start dismantling a team that has taken 5 years to build and to wait out Manning's maturity.

It never was Shockey holding this team back. It was usually the over throws and INTs. the QB threw at crucial times that did them in. And it sure wasn't Tiki, either.

I'm a little baffled. I still can't believe we didn't beat them in the playoffs. Shockey or no Shockey, Tiki or no Tiki. Imagine, both those guys have been stakes in our hearts over the years and with them not playing, we still lost.

I still don't understand that, really.

Hmmm..

He was a prob on that team. The con's outweigh the pro's. He took Eli and coaches out of their gameplan but disrupting the team.

LOL... yeah Coughlin got the cash and is gonna be there for a while so NOW HE HAS some power over his players again. Shockey is on the firing wall - gotta love the role reversal. For years Shockey and Tiki tried to get Coughlin fired

From Ny Post

The Saints called and expressed interest in trading for tight end Jeremy Shockey. The Giants are not shopping Shockey and they declined to discuss any trade. Shockey is coming off surgery on his leg and ankle and could not at the moment pass a physical.

I have a feeling they're taking this whole "we won the SB without him so we don't need him" crap too far. Boss does not make them a better offense, especially not over Shockey.

But he always kills us so I'd love to see him leave the division.

Actually, I think Boss does make the Giants a better team. Shockey doesn't know how to pick up a blitz or look for the ball when the QB is under duress. Good receiver, completely overrated player.

Unless Shockey flatout calls Coughlin a homo or something else as equally silly, Shockey will remain a Giant. Book it.

You're doing a head to head comparison on a guy who started 2 games (not including the playoffs) versus Shockey who started 14. Of note though is the one important stat, touchdowns, 3 for Shockey, 2 for Boss in 12 less games.

Shockey is great between the 20s and when the play is designed to go to him, otherwise, not so much.

That being said, I hope the Giants keep him.

All this "cancer" talk tends to get overrated-at least TO put up career numbers for us last year. Shockey, OTOH, put up SQUAT-yah, his p-poor stats told EVERYTHING.

Could this also be move to put Shockey in his place, so to speak. Shockey has been a disruptive force for years on that team. The SB should have been enough, but maybe they want to spell it out clearly to Shockey that he is expendible.

Good point about the comparison, but I would point out that defensive coordinators gameplanned for Shockey a lot more than for Boss in their respective games. Boss' productivity in a shorter timespan was as much a benefit of not being spotlighted by the defense as Shockey's productivity was minimized for being a target of the defense. JMO, of course.

Even despite Shockey's explosive personality, he IS a very good blocker in the run game, something Boss lacks. In our playoff game against them, replays showed how Shockey would have sprung his RBs loose, where Boss had trouble with his blocks.

Knowing how BP loves TEs, is there any chance he'd part w/that #1 for Shockey?...
