Wow. Trading to a division rival.

The Eagles are smart. I guess the Commanders gave them the best deal. I wouldn't doubt it. Probably 3 firsts and 4 second rounders.

Look for McNabb to sign a 5 year $140 million contract.

Jeebus...I don't know about this move. An upgrade? Of course. Not saying too much, though. Worth giving up a HIGH 2nd round pick for (along with a later round pick next year)? Not in my mind, no. We aren't the Vikings, who had an incredibly solid team all around except for QB. We were more like a sieve--holes everywhere. Would have preferred seeing us get younger and drafting both a QB and an OLineman instead. If we had signed McNabb as a free agent I'd be singing another tune, because we'd still have both our 1st round and 2nd round picks.

I dont really know what to think. Mcnabb is a good QB, but I was really looking forward to potentially grabbing bradford. With this, we trade JC for hopefully a 3rd, and grab some Oline in the draft.

Honestly, deep down, I hope we use mcnabb as trade bait...say, mcnabb + our 4th overall selection to the rams, for their first overall and a 3rd rounder? Then, we could use the first overall to grab Bradford. Prior to that, we trade JC for a 3rd, to recoup a draft pick. This scenario would have us get Bradford, and have 2 3rd rounders to use on O-line. One can dream I guess.

I thought about that an hour ago.

Now I am certain McNabb is the man here.

What this trade now allows is 1) A clear upgrade at QB with an experinced WCO guy. McNabb>Campbell that is for certain

2) The chance to draft a potential elite LT, or trade down from the 4 spot. Both good places to be

It is clear Shanahan was not going to gamble his Commanders tenure on an unproven QB. He may still get a QB, and probably will next year, but now he at least knows he has a guy that can play in the NFL and understands the NFL and the WCO.

Is it a move I particularly like? Na. I'd like to keep the picks. Of course they can be recouped with trades, which I think will happen.

Are the Commanders clearly better for next year, and probably the next 2-3 years? For sure yes

How many draft picks do you guys have left now? 4? :laugh1:

All hail our offseason champions

Love how so many of you have spent so much of the offseason trying to convince us Snyder had changed

I guess I should post it here

A) The offseason is far from over. There are 3 weeks before the draft to recoup picks

B) McNabb is a CLEAR upgrade over Campbell. Not even the biggest Cowboy homer can deny that. McNabb at QB probably means a win over the 'Boys in game 1 (the 7-6 game)

Shanahan doesn't want to risk his tenure on an unproven rookie (Claussen) and felt he couldn't get Bradford.

Now he can go ahead and either a) draft the best LT available at number 4 or B) trade down and recoup picks, WITHOUT the pressure of getting a QB for 2010 and beyond. In this case, you are looking at a 3-4 year period with McNabb.

This was really the only way to address both serious needs, the need for a LT and the need for an upgrade at QB without having to gamble on a rookie QB

A move I would have made? Na. But Shanahan didn't show up in DC to get his *** kicked next year either.

What do you have to recoup these draft picks with?

1) The number 4 pick

2) There are players who may actually hold value. Do the Raiders trade for Campbell? Andre Carter had his best season last year, does a contender needing a pass rusher take a bite at him? Is Santana Moss on the trading block?

3 weeks to the draft my man, and 5 months until September. There is quite a bit that will be done to the Commanders roster prior to the 2010 season kicking off.

Apparently you and 4 other teams in the top 5 are trying to trade down though.

Yea, it takes 2 to tango. I have no clue what will happen there, but it certainly is an option

If the Bills and Seahawks fall in love with Clausen there is some potential.

A long time left until draft time. Personally I think we hold onto the pick and take Okung

I'm curious what the Skins will do if they don't have the ability to make this guy resign with a long term deal and the dude winds up walking after this season. How would Skins feel if they gave up that 2nd and a pick next year for the guy if he winds up leaving after this season is over?

He's a clear upgrade over Campbell but still, ultimately, likely has 2-3 seasons left in him, tops, and is simply the Commanders going after an older star instead of keeping picks and drafting their players and getting younger.

Between the signings of runningbacks who have been injuried and not the same as they were a few years ago, and now giving up draft picks for an aging QB, all I'm seeing the Commanders doing right now is what they've always done under Snyder which is get older, rather than younger.

We'll have to wait and see how this all works out for them but this is a short term fix, at best, and IMO wasn't the best idea for the Skins in the long term.

Taking Okung, at this point, would seem to be the best bet. They're going to have to keep McNabb upright since they've given up a couple of picks for an aging QB. They need to keep him protected so he can make the move worth it for them.

.

I don't see the Commanders having trouble re-signing McNabb. One thing the Commanders organization has been very good at is signing guys they want :)

2-3 years and Shanny can get his future QB next year.

That would be smart. Now to the question I posed earlier in this thread. Does this trade smack of making a move such as signing Julius Peppers?

Na, I don't the Commanders overpaid for something they didn't neccessarily need.

I have been on the "get a damn QB" bandwagon this whole offseason. More so I was hoping it would be Sam Bradford.

McNabb is a major upgrade over Campbell and won't cost nearly as much as Peppers.

The Commanders are much better now then they were at 6 pm this evening. That would have been debateable had they set the market and signed Peppers to the contract the Bears gave him
