now i'm glad as hell L got paid. he deserved it after getting screwed in the draft. but what i don't get is performance based pay is by definition is "a system that rewards players whose playing time is disproportionate to their salaries."

Collins learned he will earn another $277,939.63
Safety J.J. Wilcox, who started 12 games, earned $227,737.26.
Darrion Weems, who was on the active roster for one game, earned the smallest check at $551.30.

ok, like the player or not - put those emotional outbursts away please. i really don't wanna hear JJ sucks or that crap - i just want to understand a system that is designed to give players more $ based on time played and how "underpaid" they were.

so - let's look at:
Tony Romo took in an extra $2,458.28 for his four games. Modest sum, sure. but how in the hell could someone who played 4 games and made the millions he made ever be considered underpaid vs. playing time?

other players:
Anthony Hitchens -- $166,697.27
Terrance Williams -- $164,211.23
Nick Hayden -- $157,095.24
Jack Crawford -- $144,189.79
Tyler Patmon -- $141,116.91
Jeff Heath -- $135,163.06
Kyle Wilber -- $118,454.41
Byron Jones -- $107,255.58

ok - again kinda odd on some. heath i can see. jones sure. i'll now brace myself for WHAT HAS THAT POS HAYDEN DONE!!!! cause some of pavlovs dogs can't see his name without erupting into an emotional online outburst.

kinda odd, really.

but not as strange as:
Former running back Joseph Randle, who was released Nov. 3, 2015, and has been arrested six times in the past two years, earned $33,285.50.

Randle had a bail reimbursement clause in his contract?

IRVING, Texas -- In order to sign La'el Collins as an undrafted free agent last year, the Dallas Cowboys had to go the unusual route of fully guaranteeing his three-year contract for close to $1.6 million.
On Monday, Collins learned he will earn another $277,939.63 from his rookie season thanks to the NFL’s performance-based pay system.
The system rewards players whose playing time is disproportionate to their salaries. Collins started 11 games at left guard as a rookie in 2015.
Each team was awarded $3.802 million to dispense. Collins was one of 10 Cowboys to earn more than $100,000. Safety J.J. Wilcox, who started 12 games, earned $227,737.26.

So Collins picked up another nice check.

A bonus based on playing time is going to pay anyone who plays. It's not about how well the played but an undrafted player starting games gets them a nice check. I think it's a very good system

i think they got paid shut up and get paid. to get paid for being underpaid after agreeing to payment is just creating reasons to pay people. however, in this case the point of the system, as i understand it, is to pay people who didn't make enough according to their playing time.

THIS IS MY QUESTION - how is that figured out - didn't make enough according to playing time? is this the real reason behind it or just the first thing i read? if just a bonus cause we had extra cash great - but that doesn't match up to what i read about it being based on playing time and perf OF WHICH prompted my post.

It's a system set up as part of the CBA designed to reward under payed players like Collins who makes a pretty low salary yet was a starter
My understanding it's based on playing time only, not how well you played. A system based on how well you played would be very subjective
I like the system, so many undrafted guys are big parts of teams today it allows them to get more based on playing time which really is about performance in many ways . If you aren't playing well you most likely aren't going to be playing in most cases

and thats fine and along with what i've read.

what does "not compute" is how romo got anything at all for 4 games played last year.

Performance-Based Pay is computed by using a “player index.” To produce the index, a player’s regular-season playtime (total plays on offense, defense and special teams) is divided by his adjusted regular-season compensation (full season salary, prorated portion of signing bonus, earned incentives). Each player’s index is then compared to those of the other players on his team to determine the amount of his pay.

Each player receives his share of the pool depending on how his index compares to those of his teammates.

well that does answer that. :) thank you!

I have no sympathy for Collins.

He could have and would have been drafted if he and his agent hadn't been stupid enough to tell folks not to draft him in rounds 3-7, like he was going back into the draft next year or something. I think either they were both ignorant about their options or they knew exactly what they were doing and got what they wanted.

That's the way it goes....no different than a top 5 player like Jaylon Smith getting injured and losing money.

and if he was not wrongly accused, then it wouldn't have put him and his agent into a ******** situation.

His agent knew what he was doing. He's eligible for a much larger contract sooner than if he was drafted in rounds 3-7. They did the math and realized that he'd be losing money if he became a starter (he did) and he went the low draft choice route vs. UDFA.

Now whether or not Jerry decides to offer him a big long term contract is up for debate. He could squat on him with some tenders until after year 4. My bet is Jerry will be happy to pay the man if he remains a starter and plays well.

he was an UDFA.....the gift that keeps on giving

I guess so
Not sure how the formula works but always thought it was for guys who really out played their contract. Obviously romo didnt

The pot is divided as per the total number of snaps each player takes.

If I had to pull something out of thin air, I would assume there is some calculation based off how much each position is paid per snap. So for a QB, that number is probably higher. So let's say some udfa ends up starting all 16 games. Their pay would be so much lower than their value to the team, and they really had no say in how much they got paid.

JJ Does suck.

Otherwise, I just wish Reality would give us performance-based pay. It would only be fair, blokes.
