Here's a short video discussing Dak's mechanics. I'm wondering how much they would work on tweaking it. The front leg extension always bothers me and I think it leads to some throws that hit receivers above the shoulders instead of in their chest. I just don't know how much they would want to tweak with it.

There's good stuff in the video. Enjoy!

Meh.

Their belief system is entrenched in biomechanics and kinamatic sequencing (starting from the 'ground up') and then a gradual transfer of the Center of Pressure (aka 'the weight) to the front leg at the release of the football.

He's not going to injure his leg by simply throwing a football with the left knee extension. Where he could have a leg injury with that style is if a defender or teammate backs up into that extended knee. However, if any player backs up into him the wrong way it's likely to cause injury regardless of throwing mechanics.

Note how he mentions that Aaron Rodgers has a similar way of throwing in order to 'create force.' That's one of my big gripes from the biomechanics crowd...they tend to have an ideology based on what something should look like and that creates parameters for them to research with science as to what to look for (also, they consistently misinterpret measurements). Instead, I would research the very best throwers of the football from either a velocity and/or accuracy standpoint...then find the similarities. Rodgers isn't some 1-off in his throwing motion as most of the strong armed/accurate QB's in the league's history have thrown the ball with that type of motion like Brett Favre, Jeff George (crappy QB, but awesome arm), John Elway, etc.

This allows Dak (and other QB's) to get more rotational ground reaction forces and that allows him to throw the ball with a quicker overhand release motion.

I think Dak's issues are mostly when he starts to get his left hip into extension and his over-striding on his throws. When his left hip gets into extension he can't 'pull back' the left hip as effectively and that leads to some high throws. He needs to get better at climbing the pocket and I think his occasional over-strides prevent him from doing that.

I believe that's what Dak was working on coming into last season and they'll just keep working on it because the quickness of his release, the windows he threw out of and his ball location was really great last year overall. They just need to prevent him from falling into old habits.

He throws off his back foot quite a bit which leads to some funky looking throws. But he's fine overall.
