...imagine, if you will, that molding a team involves similiar tactics that molding a statue does. A blunt object with a sharp end is hammered into rough edges to ultimately smooth into a finished work of art. Three dissappointing ends to season down and I can only hope that these bitter ends have served as chizel's to otherwise a very rough team. Oh, they have talent; talent has never been the question, as this team goes down as one of the most dissappointing in the history of the Cowboys. But there was an era in the late 60's and on into the early 70's that experienced many a tribulation trying to get to the ultimate championship game. Like these Cowboys, they were a winning bunch, but never seemed to capitalize on the big games...the ones that really counted. Now, in terms of overall talent, these two teams very well may not compare, as there really doesn't seem to be a reasonable excuse for how this particular team has performed for the exception of maybe injuries, which still does make Sunday's loss margin acceptable, but I digress...
My point is, in this game where fans share in the success and failures of outcomes they have little to do with, one thing has been certain throughout the tenure of football - there are only so many dissappointing ends a talented team can take before they start figuring out how much every game means, start to learn how to win the tough games, and how to stick together as an organization throughout the bitter losses, despite what blame can be assigned.
I for one, while I am dreading another long 7 months to kick off, am looking forward to next season and the healthy set of weapons we will have in stock. Hopefully, these players will make a committment before they leave their lockerroom for the last time this season, to stay in shape, come back better than they were this year, and are devoted to putting this Cowboys team back on top where they belong. Forget what the analyst predict of next season, disregard what the neysayers may say, and only look at what each part of this team has been able to accomplish on good days. The offense on a good day is unstoppable. The defense on a good day does not allow touchdowns. Even the special teams have shown flashes of brilliance. If only this team can put it together at the same time all the time for every game and throughout the playoffs. When this team can do that, most will agree, there is not a team in either conference that can match up to them.
