I realize I am in full Devil's Advocate mode but... What if the 5-5 record keeps our eyes open so that the team works extra hard going into the home stretch? We seem to play best when our backs are squarely against the wall. Had we been 7-3 at this point, we very well might be looking at one of those classic season ending fizzles because our heads tend to get too big when we're sitting pretty.

LOL. Our backs were squarely against the wall in Week 17 last year and we got dogged. The problem is in a very competitive division, we should have set ourselves apart from the rest with the way they started the season. Giants lost their first 6 and now are 2 wins (very manageable wins at that) away from sitting right beside us. The classic season ending fizzle may be happening right before our eyes mid-season as opposed to late in the year.

You have made some great points to prompt excellent discussion...but I dont think the above is one of your better points. Were our backs not up against the wall the last game of the season last year?

Ok. Yes. They were. I can't speak to that.

totally agree. And by the way, I think one of the worst things to happen with this team was going toe to toe with the Broncos. Think about it...
It resulted in a LOSS
but created, what I believe, is false hope by the owner and of course some fans too.

How many times do we read or hear...."but look at how we did in the Denver game".
Yeah, I can tell you how we did: a home loss.

Mentally, based upon our history, wouldn't you all agree that being 5-5 at this point is better than being 7-3? Squarely from a mental standpoint? This cast of characters doesn't know how to play from ahead. I believe the 5-5 record will cause them to work harder than every before to right the ship during the bye week. Does that mean it will turn up roses? No. However, I do think it means everyone is on notice. Everyone.

Well if we are doomed with our backs against the wall anyway then you may as well stop watching and find a more productive way to spend the last 6 sundays. Because what do you think the playoffs are? Backs squarely against the wall.

I know it sucks but the only way I see getting any enjoyment out of the rest of the season is by asking myself this: If we get our defenders back and we are in the playoffs do we have a chance to win a few? I say yes. I say playing full potential we do have a chance to make a run.......Doesnt mean we will. But at least we can and looking at it from this perspective is much more enjoyable than to be doom and gloom and sit around bitter over something you have no control of. Its a sport which is entertainment.....

it's amazing to think we could be 8-2 right now with players off the street, young draft choices and hurt veterans.

what's sad is that marinelli and bisaccia are the only ones that have shown true nfl coaching prowess.

i'm so thrilled to hear holloman is back at practice...i think he might ignite a spark.

i love a lot of the younger players and draft picks...

i hate the head coach and the play calling on offense and defense.

Does the occupation of 1st place signify some level of improvement? I'll be straight with you, while I would love to take Garrett out behind the woodshed and ring his neck (Jerry too), I understand the reality of it all is that we have what we will have to deal with until at least season's end. Teams that looked mediocre at this point have gone on to win Super Bowls. It's written in the history books.

We are tied for first with a 5-5 record, the two other teams who started horribly are now still in contention. We've also not traditionally played our best football at the end of the season..so I'm still disappointed in where we sit.

Maybe we turn it around but I'm just not optimistic at this stage given what we've seen.

I would take first place if that was the scenario. Our record means nothing if we are in the playoffs. Didn't the Cardinals make it to the Super Bowl a few years ago with either a 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7 record?

Now I am not thrilled with the way we have played.
I am looking at things from a perspective of the "New NFL" and realizing that last years Super Bowl champions are below .500 this year, the giants and Commanders are below .500, the best team in the league today was a team so awful last year that they were 2-14.........This is parity. This is the new nfl.

I am a huge Jerry Jones fan (not many can say that). Because I respect his passion and I see an owner over the years that has tried about everything possible to build a winner again. Remember he learned under Jimmy Johnson and they paid the core veterans. Truth is Jimmy Johnson would win in this NFL either. That offensive line couldn't exist in the days of free agency and salary caps. Jerry tried to buy the missing pieces in free agency several times. Jerry tried to be creative in the draft like the Patriots and accumulate draft picks. Jerry tried to trade for players he thought would get us over the top. What he hasn't been good at is being lucky enough to have the right mix of cheap players with stars who are playing in the perfect system at the perfect time.

What I see is a team that has had an extreme level of injuries over the last 2 season and in the New NFL that equals .500 football at best.
He has tried stepping down as GM. That says that his ego is bigger than his desire to see the team win. Good luck with the man-crush. I think you will find it to be a one way love affair.

They could just as easily be 2-8. This is one mess of an organization.

How many wins does any one trust this team to win from now until the end o f season the thing is even if they would make the playoffs they are not going to win a game against better team personally I don't think they are good enough to make the playoffs

The defense is pathetic. But they have gotten TO's.

The offense is a complete mess. Same old song. Different OC, but same result.

The 90's called and want there offense back.

No problem. Just keeping it real. Truth is, they are lucky to have the wins that they do considering the injuries, defensive scheme and total lack of a consistent offense. Add the coaching problems and it really is a wonder that they on top of their division.

Right. So imagine where they could be after the bye if they correct just two of those four issues.

These issues should never have been a problem in the first place. I think if they had the ability to correct the issues, it would have been done a while ago. Jerry or Garrett just don't have the answers.

So let's look at things from a different point of view. Before the season started, how many of you would have been perfectly content going into the bye week 5-5 tied for 1st place in the division?

I would not have been satisfied. I don't care if all of the other East teams were 2-8. After 10 games, being in first place doesn't mean much if we are still a .500 team.

Looking at the schedule before hand, 7-3 looked doable and I would have been ok with 6-4 but 5-5 tells me nothing has changed. The last thing I want is Dallas to play for the division in week 17 sitting at 7-8. If we win, we backdoor-ed in and if we lose, well Jerry might think we almost did it again and keep Garrett for another year.

Lets hit rock bottom or go on a streak(assuming the offense gets it's cr---p together and the defense gets some players back). Enough of this hovering over .500.
