Pet peeve, tailgating in the left lane

There is no law that states you have to be so far behind a car in front of you that I know of. There is a law stating that slower traffic in the left lanes should yield. There are signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right" There are no signs for tailgating that I have seen.

Texas is not all that bad about it really. East coast especially south of DC is pretty awful with it.

I thought I remembered some bs standard about 2/3 car lengths? This was 17 years ago when I took the driving test (could be dated) and no one follows this law that I've seen. Probably one of those rarely used discretionary laws to allow them to check out the driver/vehicle, etc. If you're talking 95S, yeah that HW is always a slugfest it seems.

Yikes 6 car lengths if you're going 60...pulled this bc I'm a nerd.:D

"The key to winning a case for tailgating is to prove that your distance behind the other car was reasonable and prudent given the circumstances at the time. The big word here is “circumstances.” The normal safety guideline is that a driver should leave one car length between his or her car and the car in front of it for every 10 mph. So, to be safe, a car traveling 60 mph should normally have at least six car lengths of empty space between it and the car in front of it."

Any commercial vehicle, all trucks, minivans, CRVs, Rava4s, actually any mini-SUV should not be allowed to be in the left lane unless they are passing and then moving out of it.

Those are the biggest culprits for driving slow in the left lane.

Shooting them should be fair game if found in the left lane.

The DMV teaches one car length for ever 10 miles per hour, and yes you can be ticketed for tailgating. Though the ticket would be fore reckless driving and/or public endangerment.
