2 yrs 54 million , 27 a year . Wow I guess Soto broke the Cohen cash register and this sounds like the player telling the agent get me into a camp for spring training and as a Met he’s comfortable going back .

Was hoping the Rangers could have added his bat to an already stout lineup .

Pete Alonso is the least valuable kind of hitter - all power, little else. He is a negative in the field at first base. Despite all the attention he gets from swatting 30+ homers, he's worth like 2.5-3.0 fWAR and it's all in his bat and he's over 30 now. Paying him 27m a year is malpractice.

If the Rangers wanted a 2.5 fWAR player at 1B, they woulda kept Nate.

What about his 30 plus HR bat as strictly DH . Although Joc Pederson seems to have that ticket punched .

I was kind of hoping he moved on from NY. Most of his HR’s are empty and he fails in the clutch far too often. It is usually a KO or HR with him. I am hoping he will do better, average wise, with Soto in the lineup.

Is Dave Robertson still available . This looks like an Achilles heel on the 25 Rangers . Bring Roberson back to anchor that bullpen

We've already got DH filled. Baseball fans need to get out of the baseball card stat mindset of their youth - we have much better tools to evaluate players now and it turns out 30 homers doesn't provide that much value if its the only thing a player can do. Pete's had two years of decline in a row now, he is worth negative value in the field, and wanted a deal in the 6/160 range. Pete's a lot closer to a DH than a 1B, and DHs with numbers like this can be had for far cheaper. Hell, Jake Burger is a similar sort of player and he was dirt cheap. Even if the Rangers had room under the tax for Pete, i'd have been a hard No.

Not enough money to do that and stay under the Luxo Tax. This is the price we are paying for the Seager and Simien signings. I don't like the idea of paying relievers big money anyways.

I don’t think in the scheme of things Robertson would cost more than say 8 million . I mean you get to the 9th up 4-2 I’m glad Jose LeClerc has a different zip code . Now who gets the call ? Yates is a Dodger wish they had kept him & Robertson .

I don’t think Burger puts up Alonso offensive #’s and defensively he’s not that high on the ladder but I understand Joc Pederson gets the most DH action . The Rangers will bang out runs it’s the bullpen that looks cloudy

Alonso isn’t going anywhere
No I know that but the lineups been quiet this yr and the off season pick ups were Pederson & Burger 1st base DH when Alonso could have fit in nicely at those spots .

I do like what Kumar Rocker and Patrick Corbin have added to the rotation . I’m willing to be wrong about the risk of drafting Rocker if he keeps it up . And Leiter should be back soon .
