Peter Schrager mock

His comments....

Tyron, meet Tyler -- and teach him everything you know. The Cowboys are going through a transition across their offensive line, and it's time to reload with new, young talent. Smith is viewed as being a bit raw, but also as having one of the highest upsides among tackles in this draft. I don't see him falling out of the top 32.

The big board I'm looking at has him as an early to mid 2nd rounder.

Hate it for 24 but I wouldn’t be opposed to picking him in the R2 if available provided Dallas took a guard R1

#24 is too high for a project lineman but it’s better than Mosher wasting the pick on another wide receiver.

I hate Smith at 24. Now, if I can slide down to the late 1st or early 2nd? Sure

I generally enjoy Mosher and McCool but some of their draft takes are whack. They keep thinking Dallas is going to steal Sam Williams in the 3rd or 4th. That dude might not even make it to 56.

I think they both run with and trust PFF’s simulator. Mosher just ran through a 7 round mock (admitting to using a simulator), and his first four for Dallas were the exact same ones I picked through PFF earlier the same day. PFF vs PFN vs Fanspeak all have quite varied boards.

Same here. But I hate the very thought of wasting yet another 1st round pick on a wide receiver even more.

Why is that? It’s a need at a position that’s getting more and more expensive in FA, so a rookie contract for starter makes sense to me.

  1. Because it is the most abundant position in the entire draft every year
  2. The team has already invested two 1st round picks in the position since 2019

If the team truly wants to upgrade their OL, Smith has to be in the conversation. Many prospects don't have his elite physical traits. I also would rather take a safer prospect at 24, but if the teams like Smith probably would have to take him there.

Tyler Smith's best games were at OG.

In Senior Bowl 1-on-1s he and Zion Johnson were the only OL that had any chance of blocking DT Travis Jones.

Zion has far better technique but Smith appeared to have as much or more natural power.

Smith shows legit NFL LT athleticism and has good arm length.

He really doesn't have technique. He just lines up and plays.

He is a small college prospect and his OL coach was reportedly very young and inexperienced.

The Cowboys once drafted a small school OL that played without any technique.
