Detroit has signed guard Stephen Peterman to a five-year, $15 million deal with $5.5 million guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Peterman was a third-round pick of the Cowboys in 2005 and knee injuries kept him off the field, much like it did for the second-rounder that year, Jacob Rogers.

Peterman was never blessed with athleticism but Bill Parcells thought he was a fighter. When he got hurt, the Cowboys did not want to wait to see if he could come around. As a result, they went and signed free agent Marco Rivera, who suffered a back injury before he would play a game, with a $10 mil bonus. He lasted two years before the Cowboys went the free agent route again by bringing in Leonard Davis for $18 million guaranteed.

That's the price for missing on draft picks, especially in the top three rounds. That's $28 million in guaranteed money that the Cowboys could have spent in other spots.

*Shrugs* Good. More wasted money by the Lions. Their O-Line was terrible last year and he was a part of that terrible.

hard to judge any player's performance on an 0-16 . when I saw them, Peterman looked decent.

of course, folks need to understand what OL guys get paid in this league.

FWIW, it looks like he got the same contract we gave to Kosier...also a Lions reject.

He got $500k more in guaranteed money than Kosier, two years after Kosier's contract. Looks like he's getting paid like a backup linemen.

The draft can be such a crapshoot. He was first-team All-SEC his junior and senior seasons, and a SI All-American his senior year. If only he didn't keep getting hurt...

Peterman agrees to five-year deal with Lions

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Detroit Lions, Stephen Peterman
Not all of last year’s Lions are disposable. Detroit is paying to retain some.
The Lions reached an agreement Monday with free-agent-to-be guard Stephen Peterman on a five-year, $15 million contract that included $5.5 million in guaranteed money.
Last season was Peterman’s first full year as a designated starter, though he has 29 career starts. He sat out most of his first two seasons with knee injuries.

Edit: Spelled guaranteed wrong in the tittle.

if I recall correctly, those numbers are earily similar to what we signed Kosier to. Albeit we signed Kosier a few seasons ago. However, Kosier >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Peterman
