Detroit has signed guard Stephen Peterman to a five-year, $15 million deal with $5.5 million guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.
Peterman was a third-round pick of the Cowboys in 2005 and knee injuries kept him off the field, much like it did for the second-rounder that year, Jacob Rogers.
Peterman was never blessed with athleticism but Bill Parcells thought he was a fighter. When he got hurt, the Cowboys did not want to wait to see if he could come around. As a result, they went and signed free agent Marco Rivera, who suffered a back injury before he would play a game, with a $10 mil bonus. He lasted two years before the Cowboys went the free agent route again by bringing in Leonard Davis for $18 million guaranteed.
That's the price for missing on draft picks, especially in the top three rounds. That's $28 million in guaranteed money that the Cowboys could have spent in other spots.
