I see Bland as likely the future defensive stalwart of the Cowboys defensive secondary. Whether his development corresponds to that or not remains to be seen. The indications now are that he has the talent to make that idea come to fruition. I'm extremely hopeful that will it'll be proven. He's, apparently, well into the process of proving that to be true. Be faithfully enthused and keep tabs on his progress. I'm supremely confident we won't be disappointed. The signs are more than encouraging. I truly believe he's a winner and you probably should, as well. Mine is a strongly-felt opinion that is directed at nobody in particular. Take it for whatever it's worth. ;)

If Bland can play boundary as well as he does the slot then I'd bring back Lewis. Lewis is better slot corner than AB is on the boundary.

Yep. We haven’t “seen it” as far as him being a shutdown corner and making pro bowls, obviously. However, we have seen excellent play from him. His instincts stood out to me immediately in the preseason. I remember writing on here that his reactions, reaction time, and closing on the ball looked more like a seasoned veteran than a raw rookie that spent most of his career at a community college. It was something that you almost never see.

I was really kind of stunned at how he played in the preseason. If you had told me he was the Cowboys first round pick and he was playing like that, I would’ve thought that Dallas really hit on their premium pick. Frankly you really don’t see first round corners looking that polished and in control in their rookie training camp.

The coaches also verified what our eyes were telling us back in camp. They said that he was smart and a fast learner. Quinn also said that he made some mistakes, but that once he made it, he never did it again. That is music to the fans ears because that is exactly what you want.

It is between his ears that has allowed him to come in and shoot so quickly up the depth chart. Right after the draft, it was clear that Bland had all the physical traits that you could want. He has length, speed, loose hips, is hyper athletic, and is explosive. But he is smart. Not just common sense smart either. He has a ton of football IQ, which lets him take advantage of angles, leverage, and all of the other minutia that goes into the mental part of being a good NFL player.

The only thing that I really saw him do wrong in training camp was in a preaseason game. I can’t remember who they were playing (maybe the Chargers?), but he got a bomb for a TD thrown on him. He was in perfect position and running stride-for-stride with the WR, but he never got his head around to find the ball. Which is something a lot of pro DB’s are guilty of (Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie, for example). However, he has completely changed that and, as his 3 INT’s can attest, he now is always looking for the ball. Like the coaches said: He learns from his mistakes, takes the coaching and fixes it.

Anyway, I’m going on and on about him but his skill and maturity have been impressive. I just really like him as a player and I’m happy for Dallas to have stolen one in the 5th round.

Bland's college tape shows he came into NFL with instinct for ballhawking and big plays.

DQ has the ability to recognize player's strengths and make it fit his system instead of trying to shoehorn player into the system.

Didn't he give up that 4th down td pass against green bay?
I mean, I like player, but he still has some growing pains

I agree but my issue with the Green Bay game was nobody made the adjustment to jam the receiver! Was that his call or scheme? Either way it never should have gotten to that point

I'm pretty sure he played outside in Fresno.

He did, just saying if he can translate that to NFL as easily and as successfully as his transition to slot corner.

Bland is a starter too.
Kinda (starting due to injuries). You're telling me you'd have Bland over the other? Sorry, not trying to move the needle here. I just didn't find much to be compared here for a variety of reasons. Apples and Oranges. Bland has shown some talent, and happy to have him, but they're not in the same league imo. Not yet anyhow.

Bland has been fantastic. He is a poster boy for everything that is good about football. Youth, hard work, rookie contracts. These are the things championship teams are built on.

I’m high on Bland and recognize as a young corner he’s going to give up some plays. He’s already flashing and will only get better with more reps.

To nab a quality secondary player in the 5th round is an absolute steal and offsets possibly missing on Tolbert in the 3rd round (though I’m not ready to give up on him yet).

Bland attacks receivers when they go for the catch. Great to see that aggressiveness in a DB
