PFF Draft Grade: A+

The Cowboys entered the draft with a solid core and came out of it extremely more talented on both sides of the ball. Lamb makes the number one offense in football even better. Diggs and Robinson cover the loss of Byron Jones, and both will be here at least four years at a fraction of the cost. Gallimore gives them a stud DT prospect that can learn a lot from Gerald McCoy.

Both Tyler Biadasz and Bradlee Anae were steals that have the potential to overcome physical shortcomings to become productive NFL starters.

PFF rankings or not, this was an A-plus draft, even though time will tell.

I would be careful on the upgrading the talent. IMO, we did in some areas but not in others. I’m not so sure a rookie CB is going to come in and shut down half the field like Byron did...but hey, if he gets a pick or two then I guess it makes it all worth it :rolleyes:

Edge is still a big ?. We lost our guy with the most sacks, the interior is also a big ?. LB’er, who knows how LVE will be or how long he’ll last and I don’t think anyone knows what the hell we’ll get from Smith. Zeke is a year older but more offensive weapons (Lamb)...rising tide lifts all boats type thing should help everyone on offense. Center still concerning, I like the pick a lot but there’s a reason he dropped as far as he did when he was once considered a first or high 2nd round grade and other centers went before him.

Not trying to be debbie downer but am trying to temper my expectations, I’ve fallen into this trap one too many times over the past 20+ years, most recently 2018. We also have to remember there are 31 other teams that hypothetically improved as well but I really like our chances to win the NFCE at a minimum this year. Washington and NY are still light years behind us talent wise although NY will be tougher than last year and who the hell knows what’s going on in Philthy.
Yeah, I am with you on this one when it comes to an Edge rusher. I think the Cobra was a little overrated but he did lead the team in sacks. LVE needs to be healthy. Draft talent is never as bad as the poor ratings or as good as the A+ rating. You will not know if any of these guys can play until at least training camp.

I saw the PFFrankings earlier and between those, and other grades, I take them all with a grain of salt. The Giants got an A (think that’s about right) and the Eagles got an A- which is a bit whacked IMO.

I’ve seen lots of graded drafts that are quite far apart so it’s hard to take any of them seriously. Only time will tell. For the record, I do like this draft a lot but every year players don’t pan out like these analysts and fans thought, for better or worse. I remember getting absolutely hated on for being furious with the Taco pick the night of the draft, I remember a lot of people being upset with Dak (some still are). We’ll know more aboutthis draft over the next few years.
Eagles with an A-? No way in hell.

Draft picks are about the future. Anything they do as rookies is a bonus.

Many teams have gone to the Super Bowl in the 2nd year with a new Head Coach and coaching staff, but very few have done it in the 1st year.

They should add the best talent possible now regardless of position, give it their best effort in 2020 and then reassess after the season to see which players fit with the new coaches/schemes and which ones didn't. If there is a big hole at a position at that point, then sign a free agent and move forward.

Not garbage but not the end all be all. I think their running back metrics are bad though.
@Plankton

I'm a big critic of PFF in-season grades. It's just not possible to get accurate grades in the time frame they publish them.

With 15 or 16 games each week and 46 player per team and about 140 snaps not including special teams, that is a huge amount of snaps to grade.

They publish grades the next day. They use people with no experience reviewing football game footage to "grade film".

Their process of grading draft picks is better. They have months for their top people, the people that actually have football expertise to review players. They still rely on game grades by their lower level staff, but they have months to review and adjust that data.

They gave Philly an A-. They said the LB they took in the 3rd round had a Top 32 grade from the analytics team.

LOL.

I used to critics giving us a bad grade and then we end up proving them wrong in a year or 2. Hopefully we prove them right in a year or 2.

Italics = sarcasm

The reason why I posted what I did was the swing from PFF sucking to their becoming a worthwhile resource when they gave the Cowboys an A+ for their draft.

I have their draft guide. It's very detailed, and they have certain metrics that they value when rating guys. In a lot of cases, they come off as being contrarian to what the general consensus is on players. I see the value in some of the things that they rate guys on.

Only sean lee remains as a link to GM jerry. With the release of Garrett, most of his coaches, and Witten, this team now has the stamp of the mcclay/Stephen era. This bodes well for the cowboys.

Yes, your point is definitely valid during the season when one week people hate pff and the next week the same people are using pff to support their opinion.

I attempt to have some balance when criticizing media/player/coaches etc.. I detest pff's in-season player rankings but I give them credit for their attempts to analyze draft prospects and for some of their stats. For example, they collect stats such a right, middle, left and short/deep on QB throws which requires people to review game footage but does not require any expertise.

Looks like these analytics might have really done the trick, eh, folks?
And to think Jason Garrett didn't even know enough to use it. :huh:

The difference between MM and our former HC is surely astounding!
