Thought this was kind of cool. Not sure if this was already seen / posted or not...

Dallas

Probably the most obvious of all team needs is that of the Cowboys for defensive linemen. That said, the paucity of talent across the whole defense is starting to become apparent as are some of the poorer free agency decisions (Brandon Carr and Nate Livings, for example). Injuries to great players like Sean Lee are also starting to take a toll as even these positions now can’t be relied upon. The situation is so bad I wouldn’t be surprised if only a single offensive player is taken overall and the notion of a first round quarterback (especially given Tony Romo’s contract situation) vaguely comical.

So, looking back on this chart, and particularly the red areas, it would appear that Dallas was the only team in the division to address an urgent need area (according to this chart) in the first round.

LG - Leary, see ya? Martin, most welcome addition.

Giants, WR2 - Looks to become Beckham, Jr, no? This is the only other need area that was addressed in the NFC East, because...

Eagles? DE Marcus Smith. According to this chart, that was not a need area at all with Thornton and Cox.

Oh, and the Skins...? HAAAAA HA HA! Just kidding.

So, on paper (this paper, this chart), the Cowboys won Round One of the draft.

Now, on to the DL tonight...

Now that is cool. The idea anyway.
Big thanks.

BTW,
  • they are too optimistic on Spencer.
  • I think for sure they upgraded Hayden with McClain...but he would better as a rotational player only.
  • it clearly shows the need at LG. (backup tackle too)

PFF is just awful. We are set with Claiborne but Lee needs to be replaced. Tyler Clutts is a stud and Ron Leary a huge weakness. Garbage.

Wouldn't call Leary a high priority at all. I think we view him as our future.

Not normally a PFF fan, but the yellow does not mean Lee needs upgrading, just need insurance (due to getting injured all the time).

they are using numbers not personal feelings....

sean lee has started 32 games and played 46 in FOUR seasons.
mo claiborne has started 22 games and played in 25 in TWO seasons.

cowboys have talked about adding a MLB and moving Sean Lee to WLB so he can stay on the field.

Clutts is a really good FB. He is just a pure FB and that is a rarely used position in current NFL.
Dallas doesnt need another FB over Clutts unless thye can get an HBack type who also can handle FB duties.

Leary was getting his first playing time. He definitely struggled at times. I think he'll be much better but he wasn't as good as Bern last year and was our worst OL the last 6 weeks of the season.

Yes, PFF is garbage.

Leary was really good in the 2nd half of 2013. He's even better than the obvious when considering how little help they gave him. They had Fred helping primarly to the right because Bern/Waters were keeping a closer than normal spacing to Free to help cover up Free's weaknesses.

PFF even had Free rated over Tyron at some points in time which is obvious garbage.
