15. Dallas Cowboys​

Biggest strength in 2024: Pass rush​

Dallas ranked fourth in the NFL in PFF pass-rush grade despite Micah Parsons missing four games due to injury. Of course, Parsons did his part when healthy, posting an elite 91.6 PFF pass-rush grade that ranked third among qualified edge defenders. The other big contributor was defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, who placed among the league’s top interior defenders with 60 pressures and a 78.5 PFF pass-rush grade.

Biggest weakness in 2024: Run defense​

Dallas’ performance in run defense was among the NFL’s worst. Only Carolina posted a lower PFF run-defense grade. Linebacker Eric Kendricks and safety Malik Hooker were the Cowboys’ only qualified players to earn at least a 70.0 PFF run-defense grade. New defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus needs to make the team's run defense a priority if this team is going to compete with the likes of Philadelphia and Washington.

X-factor for 2025: QB Dak Prescott​

Prescott is a prime bounce-back candidate after earning a career-low 67.2 PFF passing grade in his eight games last season. That came on the heels of his career-high 86.9 PFF passing grade in 2023. If Prescott plays closer to his 2023 form with wide receiver George Pickens in the fold, Dallas has plenty of talent to secure a postseason berth.
 
When it takes the 4th year to finally get better than the previous year, the assessment I feel is accurate.

I'm not worried about the talent. I'm worried about the focus and will to win. I'm worried the team will once again get in their own way. But the talent is there.

I agree it does sound a bit like projecting. Micah Parsons is a given and Dante Fowler was great for the Commies last year. But now the questions. Will Donovan Ezeiruaku be ready to contribute as a rookie? Can Marshawn Kneeland take the next step? Can Sam Williams stay healthy and out of trouble? Can the Cowboys get anything out of Payton Turner that made the Saints take him in the first round?

If the answers are "yes" to all of those, the Cowboys might have the best pass rushing group the NFL has seen in a long time. But there are a whole lot of "ifs".
 
That's interesting. We were pretty much at the bottom of the league vs the run. I wonder how many NFL teams have had any playoff success with bottom feeder run defenses.

Our team was expected to be successful vs tough match up teams and expected to win playoff games with a weak run defense and average at best running game.

I wonder how many other teams have had any success with these same problems.

I love the signing of Fowler and kid from BC it's the other cat i'm worried about, see there's some positivity in ole coog!
 
Packers only 2 spots above us?

Either one is too high or one is too low or both.

Espn has Packers at 8 and Cowboys at 19 while NFL.com has Packers at 9 and Cowboys at 20 so they are more closely aligned

PFF is nowhere near these other 2 media forecasts.

We all know what we were last season and we know who we've added.

On paper the offense is better than the defense.

The trenches and LB positions are a huge question mark.

Pass rush has been the strength of the defense for a few years but unfortunately teams just run the ball all over us negating it.

Any list that has 90% of teams having. A WR ranked higher than Ceedee is click bait and not real! I knew PFF was bad, but to have him be lower ranked than a WR on 25 teams is the wildest think in the history of their DA site!!!

So apparently PFF and anyone else who has casually watched this team for years can see something our front office apparently cannot: Our run defense is our biggest weakness.

And in response, our front office’s “answer” to improve our run defense is a third year potential first round bust in Mazi, last year’s 7th round long shot project Justin Roger’s and this year’s 7th round dice rolls, Jay Toia and Tommy Akingbesote.

History shows 7th round DT draft picks have about a 4% chance of being a starter. Could all these guys become “the answer” to a long term problem for this team? Well…as the saying goes, “Hope is not a strategy.”

EAGLES may be over rated
"he Eagles have lost at least three, but potentially as many as five, starters since the 2024 season. Specifically, they have lost Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, and Mekhi Becton in free agency, and there's a possibility of losing two more players, Darius Slay and Kenny Pickett."
