After the defensive grades several folks asked for offense. Same drill here.

No opinions from me, but I’m sure I’ll chime in.

These are PFF ratings (rounded) and the Zone formatting equivalent colors to match the grades on PFF

Remember - anything in the 60’s is average. You can’t get an entire roster of players in the green.
  • Elite/High Quality (Green/Blue): 90+ (Elite), 80-89 (High Quality/Pro Bowl).
  • Above Average (Yellow/Light Green):70-79 (Above Average/Starter).
  • Average (Dark Yellow): 60-69 (Average/Backup).
  • Below Average/Poor (Orange/Red/Darker Red): Below 60 (Below Average/Poor/Replaceable).

nothing below 70 should be acceptable except now and then

IF YOU REALLY WANT A CHAMPIONSHIP

Steele is too high; and while Thomas was really bad at Detroit not sure he was THAT bad

PFF isn't always 100% correct, you can use your own judgment and other metrics.
I absolutley agree, but it’s the best we got that’s not too hard to find.

The eyeball test is, however, the worst possible grading system because it is subject to any number of biases. Some real and others that affect fans more than other populations

Here’s a brief list
  • Recency
  • Confirmation
  • Hindsight
  • Halo Effect
  • Anchoring
  • False Consensus
  • Hopium
  • Copium
  • Drunkenness
  • Didn’t watch the game

PFF is pure eyeball test from the TV feed. They just grade immediately when the play ends. I'd be curious how many of the normal couch potato fans know whose responsibility it is when there's a blitz or stunt?

Average (Dark Yellow): 60-69 (Average/Backup)

And can someone help me out? Are they saying that a backup is an average NFL player?

if you concentrate on one player you can get a good idea.

but slavishly bowing before PFF and others is just as bad

you need both; if you are really curious about a player just watch him.

Now that means not watching the game but if it is that important to you then yes the Mark 1 eyeball can do pretty well

If a small number of graders consistently apply their own personal biases, those errors will skew the overall dataset in a way that simply aggregating or averaging the numbers ("truncating") can't fully correct.

Subjectivity is Inherent: Any system that uses humans to interpret complex game context, intent, and execution will always contain an element of subjective opinion, which is a form of bias.
Bias Cannot Be Zero: Even with extensive quality controls and auditing, it is philosophically impossible to eliminate human bias.

This matches what I’ve been saying about Beebe. My personal opinion on the recent struggles with Williams and the run game is Beebe struggling. IMO this team was better running the ball when Hoffman was at C.

That's right.

PFF is a scam, really.

It is a tool, but not always right.

I hope we can finally move on from Schoon and Tolbert in the offseason. JAGs

inconsistency perfectly explains the season record.

Same concerns with our D in that rankings were solid vs 3 struggling teams at home. Go on the road vs a desperate Detroit team, we get smashed. 2 weeks in a row for Pickens, week 3 will be interesting to see if he rebounds

No. He was THAT bad. 8 pressures...1 sack, 2 hits, 5 hurries. Steele wasn't much better. The two combined for 14 of the 22 pressures on the night.

Guyton is the man. Thomas is not. He might be able to supplant Steele eventually but he needs a LOT of work to play LT.
