PFF Top 32 TEs

Wait

13. Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans

Schultz has, perhaps surprisingly, produced the seventh-most PFF WAR over the past two seasons while serving as a reliable weapon for quarterback CJ Stroud. Schultz dropped two passes in 2024 and has just 20 drops in his seven-year career. He has gained 615 receiving yards in five straight seasons.
That's so funny. Folks here were so happy to see him leave, saying that we had somehow upgraded the position. For just a few dollars more, Dallas could have retained Schultz, and used the second round pick they wasted on Schoon for another position. A little money would have literally bought a second round pick.

TE is a pretty weak position group across the league. There's pry less than five true difference makers, and then a bunch of possession guys. I don't know if it's because colleges just aren't developing good TEs, or because the pay is low and so the real athletic studs would rather train to be big WRs or DEs from early on.

WRT Dalton Schultz, he sits at this weird spot where he's simultaneously not bad and not good. He just drops the exact same 60/600/5 slash line every year. But it's hard to find guys consistent enough to drop even an average stat line for 5 straight years. That's an eternity in the NFL. 5 years ago, Aldon Smith was second on our team in sacks.

Its why I never believe any of that crap. They talk about generational this....and that...you don't see generational coming so when people try and anoint that before a guy steps on the field? I'm always cautious.

That being said....i'd trade him for Ferg ASAP.
Dudes measurements were just a shade below Calvin Johnson's and his tape was very good. Dude was absolutely a generational talent. It just didn't work out

Naw I disagree….generational measurements is something completely different. It’s rare you see it coming. Lebron is that rare occurrence. Megatron as well. But I’ve seen the Jadaveon Clowney’s, the Andrew Luck’s, the Freddy Adu’s, Trevor Lawrence’s…we use generational too loosely.

Uhh yeah I don’t think you want to be 13th on this list lol….Schultz is sitting around jags and guys coming of injuries….Taysom Hill didn’t even play and doesn’t even play tight end and is next to him lol. This ain’t a flex and proves it was the right decision. Texans will cut him soon as they can.

He was easily the best TE prospect in a generation. You have to go back to Vernon Davis for someone that was even close. He had good tape and athletic ability on par or better than most of the best WR's in the game. It's not really debatable whether or not he  was a generational talent. Saying he wasnt is revisionism. He just busted

13th on the list is better than what Dallas has now!

Dallas used a second round pick and ended up worse off.

17. Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys

Ferguson looked like a tight end on the cusp of cracking the top 10 a year ago before the Cowboys' struggles and injuries caused the decline in production and grading for the third-year Wisconsin Badger. While Ferguson should enjoy a bounce-back 2025 campaign, his 56.6 PFF receiving grade and four fumbles in 2024 are worrisome for his outlook.
I think Ferguson did crack the top 10 in 2023. Injuries and backup QB hurt him last year. 700-800 yards and 5-6 TD's seems very attainable if he stays healthy

Wow a Freddy Adu reference in the cowboy zone. Did not see that coming.

True, but what the hell is going on with Kyle Pitts ( Falcons )? Dude was supposed to be the next generation TE.
Pitts was a terrible evaluation.
He was always a tweener type that played more as a WR in college.

Never should have gone top 10.
Take him at 25 and let him play a flex WR position with some in-line and he is a solid value.

I'm actually expecting our WR corps to make things much easier for our TEs in 2025. They'll surely serve to take much of the attention away from our lesser threats of big trouble. Lamb and Pickens should easily serve to deflect much of the attention away from our TEs. Blue will cause trouble, too. Opposing DBs will have their hands full. They can only double cover a limited number of threats. Prescott should have plenty of open receivers to pick from.
