PFN 3 Round Mock By Cummings

Yeah, mocks are simply opinions, so it is hard to criticize them that much. How we think it should go instead... well that’s just an opinion too.

Speaking for myself, I think Horn and Surtain are significantly better than the next tier of corners, so I would (will) completely understand picking one of them at 10.

However, there are some corners in the next tier that I do like a good bit. Newsome and Stokes, in particular are guys that I would target if pick 10 isn’t a CB. The problem there, I think, is that both of them could very likely be gone at 44. Then, your down to the next tier of guys (IMO) that might have 44 being a little too high for them. Guys like Adebo, Melinfonwu, Campbell... so do you reach at 44 for them or do you hope one slides to your first pick in the third? If they don’t make it there... you’re now down to your 4th tier of corners.

It is a slippery slope, especially when we’re kind of needing an impact at the starting corner spot opposite Diggs. That is why I completely understand just getting one of the two really good corners at 10.

Of course you could go get a vet corner in free agency after the draft like Richard Sherman, so all wouldn’t be lost if you just don’t get a good corner in the draft. If a guy like Pitts does fall and he ends up being the pick... you don’t have to reach badly on a corner at 44 just because you need a starter. You can follow your board and if a DT you love is there at 44... or a safety you love... you can take that opportunity and bring in a vet corner.

The most likely option though is probably Surtain or Horn at 10... and that is a very good choice IMO.

Yeah, that's exactly why I think drafting a CB at #10 makes most sense; you're instantly getting a starter at a defensive position. If you draft an LB there's a possibility they don't start or are just rotational, which isn't the end of the world, but is less ideal IMO.

You’re right about the LB position too. Like I’ve been saying, I don’t think the team views LVE and Smith like most fans do. IMO they’re not looking to replace them necessarily.

However, I do think that JOK would be used all over doing a lot of things, because he’s so versatile in how he can be deployed. While likely not a “starter”, he would nonetheless get close to starter snaps, I think.

But I don’t think he’s on their radar at 10, so it probably is a moot point.

That is why I just don’t see LB being in play in round 1. I do think there are options in round 3 and even 4 to get a player that can be groomed to take over next year when Smith will almost certainly be gone.
