News: PFN: Will McClay Breaks Silence on Concerns Around George Pickens' Behavior

Yes it was. I won't argue with that. Romo definitely got scammed that year. How many QBs and WRs made similar plays that counted.

The whole football move was a loophole because nobody knows what a football move is. I mean, he caught the ball and maintained possession. That's a football move to me. But I won't rehash that silly debate.
Well at that time if you remember nobody knew what a catch was ,the announcers at the time were confused by it ,and at the time there was some kind of rift between Jerry and Roger Goodell. That might be the reason Dez was robbed of that catch.

My biggest concern with Pickens is the teams ability to retain him long term if he is a big part of a vastly improved offense.

They didn’t do enough on defense for this to be an “all-in” year so they’ve gotta figure out how to keep him longer term, which could be tough…especially if he puts up the production he is capable of and behaves himself.

Might end up losing Bland, Smith and some others as a result. They’ll be able to afford to tag him with Micah’s low cap hit for 26, but not sure how Pickens will react to that one.
If they want to keep Pickens, and the other top players coming due for a contract extensions. They can and will find a way.
Fans get too caught up with the cap and being able to afford players. It always works itself out.
They still have just under $32 million in cap space and it will go up for 2026.

However, as you said, they may lose a few. But if Revel works out, they can trade or release Diggs to create cap space.
Say Elam works out, who will be cheaper to sign, Elam or Bland.

A lot of options to keep it under control.

The same guy fined over a quarter of a million dollars, most of that by his own team, in just three years is now going to curb his asinine behavior because of money?
Right on queue following that vein of negativity to the very end.

Media and fans make a lot to do about nothing when it comes to any professional athlete who isn't a robot. Same thing they did to T.O, Dez, pre CTE Antonio Brown and others.

These guys play with passion and thats what you want from your playmakers.

Agree, they can absolutely find a way to keep him if that’s the decision. Maybe not at full #1 money but maybe he likes being in Dallas and they find a middle ground. Cincy found a way to keep Chase and Higgins. They can borrow from the future as our current competition does, and do whatever they want, but they don’t seem to be willing to work that way.

He could also miss some games and be ok with a tag on another prove it year. Lots of possibilities.

But it does beg the question if it’s too much to invest in WR. I can see each side of that one.

I loved Dez, but his antics were a distraction.

TO was great . . . at receiving. But he was a nutcase.

Don't need any of that kind of BS on this team. It (the team) already has a huge number of hurdles to clear.

I just want ball players AND playmakers. In the same guy ! KISS !

Yeah, I am an old guy. Just don't want any ********* receivers or players. Play ball !
Yea and we want politicians that don't exploit us, cars that run on water and fly! But maybe we should tame our expectations and make best of what and who we have.

CeeDee and Dak should offer to make a trip with George Pickens to his hometown and visit his family and everyone he grew up around with, including visiting the hometown school children, church, mayor's office, etc.
What a great leader Dak is
He can do everything except what he is paid to do
Maybe Garrett and Dak can be a President/VP team and spare Cowboys fans

...me thinking the same. If Pickens becomes huge offense asset. I can see Diggs, Bland or other getting shaft. Use it on offense instead.

Uh, it was clearly a catch. The league just gas lighted everyone into thinking it was a legit call when it was an anomaly. I like your theory though. You're probably right.

Lots to happen between now and then.

If Revel and maybe a guy like Carson can step up maybe you can afford to let Bland walk (doubtful they allow that to happen though IMO) and/or cut Diggs and spend on offense.

On Pickens’ side, maybe there’s a situation where he misses some games and doesn’t have the numbers and is ok with a tag. Just one example of many possible scenarios.

Gotta sign Micah and Smith as well. No way either is getting away, but they can afford the non flexible high tag figure on Pickens for 2026 since those deals will carry low cap numbers.

We don't know the whole story. But Romo was obviously annoyed by Dez at times and saw him as a distraction. That was easy to see in their sideline interactions.
I’ve seen too many of their sideline interactions that were portrayed one way and it ended up being completely different once you could hear audio.

Dez was a lot at times for sure but he was a great competitor & I would gladly have him on this team again.

What did Dez do that was ever that bad over the course of his career?

The propaganda machine was all over him.
Well it started because he was ineligible for his senior year in college or whatever it was so already coming to the Cowboys he had this baggage in the minds of fans and Whatnot but it's the same thing hell Terrell Owens off the field was a St this man did nothing but workout from what I hear he did he didn't drink alcohol he didn't drink he basically had diets like Derrick Henry he worked out that way he stayed in barometric chambers whatever the hell things you call those to make sure he was ready I mean this man was one of the best wide receivers in history of the nfl and all they could talk about is his alleged distractions on the sideline or they tried to say he dropped too many passes...

It's funny how that works there's a big difference between the distraction that we can look at as these are passionate players that want the damn football I'll take a bunch of those on my team thank you you just have to deal with the passion on the sideline i'm okay with it I've seen it with AJ Brown I mean this happens quite often with receivers and and sometimes their teammates especially their quarterback things get heated.... I heard it happen with Stefan Diggs and Josh Allen but people still wanted digs over here right I mean you have to take the good with the bad we saw Michael Irvin do the similar things but because he got a ring and he was homegrown somehow he walked on water and this man got in trouble with the White House incident the Coke on the plate nonsense if this was today's day and age they would have destroyed him on social media but in the end you want those guys on your team you want great players doing great things to help you get to and win Super Bowls I don't think the Ravens cared much about what may or may not have happened with the whole Lewis thing and I don't think the league cared either the man's in the Hall of Fame the best linebackers of all time came with some baggage....

It is ironic though look at how many players have been talked down and seem like their own teams tried to destroy them on the way out why is it always come from a team like Pittsburgh who seems to me supposed to be blue collar lunch pail area, why is all these problems happen with their players?

How are they even drafting all these players that did not do their homework they did not know their character concerns or they creating these problems somehow behind the scenes?

I bet I'm going to miss somebody but ,

Burris ,you had Bell, Abrown, there was a couple other wide receivers that came and went over there(claypool), I can't remember all their names and now they're trying to make sure the world knows how bad a person George Pickens is, this is the irony here,

I mean how is it all of them seem to be I mean in the 32-team league how many of them came from Pittsburgh, these problem child players.... That's a large percentage especially from a seasoned coat that seems to be more of a player's coach and a black and blue division and an area that's known for values etc

I mean,

how is that happening seems to be more than coincidental that maybe their culture behind the scenes is breeding these types of responses from their players... I bet if you asked Justin Fields and the way they treated him in Wilson they didn't seem to want to go back there might be some more going on behind the scenes with this team and their front office and their people the way they treat their players.

I'm just grasping that store straws but if if you want to make unfounded accusations maybe all these fines are coming from the other side and they're trying to make a player look bad, so they don't have to pay them and cut them and let them go...

I don't have as much of an issue with Pickens possible decreased targets complaining as I do with the leadership infrastructure in place to nip it in the bud before it gets too ugly.

From owner/GM to HC to team captains.
Not confident in any of that group to effectively resolve possible future issues of that nature.

Cowboys!
