Blaine Gabbert completes 44-of-49 passes at Pro Day
Posted by Evan Silva on March 17, 2011, 2:50 PM EDT

Getty ImagesDave Matter of the Columbia Daily Tribune reports that the unofficial completion count from Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert’s Thursday Pro Day was 44-for-49.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton’s total was 50-of-60, while TCU’s Andy Dalton went 49-for-52 earlier this week.

Unlike Newton’s, Gabbert’s Pro Day was not fully televised. So until NFL Network’s Mike Mayock speaks later today, we have to rely on beat writers like Matter for observations. Matter covers the Missouri Tiger football team for the Daily Tribune.

Blaine Gabbert - QB - Player Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert measured 6-foot-4 and 233 pounds at the Tigers' Thursday Pro Day.
He's dropped a pound since the Combine, not that it's at all significant. Gabbert will take all of his snaps from under center for the first time since high school on Thursday. He played in a Mike Leach-like spread offense at Missouri, but was a pro-style quarterback at Parkway West in St. Louis.

Spread QBs will take at least a year or two to reach the same level a pro style QB is fresh from starting several years. Now if Gabbert has the talent and the football IQ he will make a fine QB. But it will take time.

You obviously haven't read the comments about Cam Newton. He is a #1 pick and ready to start and dominate.

:)

Blaine Gabbert - QB - Player NFL.com's Gil Brandt labeled Blaine Gabbert's Pro Day workout "outstanding" and "much better" than Cam Newton's.
Brandt's opinion is noteworthy because he had been one of the Heisman winner's leading supporters, advocating for the Panthers to jump all over Newton with the first pick. "I'm not so sure now," says Brandt. "Gabbert couldn't have done better had he borrowed Drew Brees' right arm. All the questions about his accuracy should start to go away after his workout in front of approximately 125 scouts, coaches and GMs." SI.com's Tony Pauline also believes Gabbert should be ranked ahead of Newton at this point.

He's going top ten - I think Buffalo is a possibility if Carolina says no.

Pat Jones, who I like to listen to because he's actually evaluated these guys for both the Dolphins and Raiders, said the ball came out of this guy's hand better than anyone else's, and would (or should) be the first QB off the board.

I don't really like Mizzou so I never watch their games, and haven't even seen the guy myself.

He had his WR's waiting on deep balls for him, it looked like they were catching punts.

Hes got some star factor though and Im feeling good about him helping us by going early

Newton to Carolina at 1.

Gabbart to Buffalo at 3.

Of the picks in the top 5, these make the most sense.

Denver has to get DL. Cincy should want QB, but may have to take WR. AZ wants Von Miller.

We make a deal with the Browns.

I would take Gabbert before Newton and not look back. Much Less risk IMO and a much more safe bet for a GM. I also think he's just a better player but that's just me.

As far as Denver goes, I think a lot depends on what Champ does. If he leaves for FA, I think Denver probably takes Peterson.

Newton to Carolina makes no sense. They need so much and should do what smart teams do and build starting on the Line. Take the best DL in the draft. And since Rivera is primarily a D coach that is much more likely the way they go.

Champ resigned with Broncos.

It doesnt start with the DL tho. Theres no OL worthy of the top pick. So you start with the face to put butts in the seats and the focal point for the franchise, The Quarterback

I dont think Gabbert to Buff. Think theyre going to go with Fitzpatrick and settle for Luck in 2012

Did he? I didn't know that. Might make it easier to for the Broncos to go with a pass rusher there then.

But champ is like 50 now. So I could see where it wouldn't make that big of a difference in choosing a corner or pass rusher.

Actually, he had 2 misses as he had 3 catchable balls dropped. He was not working with his receivers. Apparently, they brought in different guys for him to throw to. He actually did really well considering.

That's true. They could take a CB anyway. I'm really struggling with who is going to take what in this draft. Most drafts I have an idea but this one, it could fall so many different ways. IDK.
