From www.profootballtalk.com. This thread is mainly for enjoyment of the only two Chan Gailey die-hards on this board, Chief and myself :p:

CHIEFS HIRE GAILEY by Michael David Smith

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the hiring of Chan Gailey as their new offensive coordinator.

"Wherever he's coached, he has designed dynamic offenses to take full advantage of his players' skills," Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said. "He understands how to orchestrate a balanced offensive plan. He's going to be a good fit for our philosophy and our football team."

Gailey was fired in 2007 after spending six seasons as the head coach of Georgia Tech. He was the head coach of the Cowboys in 1998 and 1999, and he has served as offensive coordinator of the Dolphins, Steelers and Broncos.

Edwards fired offensive coordinator Mike Solari after a 2007 season in which the Chiefs' offense ranked near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories.

Fine by me. Just leave Cam and Chow alone until Dallas gets this JG stuff straighted out. :D

I was OK with Chan Gailey in Dallas UNTIL he parked the PLAYMAKER on the bench repeatedly. At that point I said "Stupid is as Stupid does Forest" and had enough.

Chan Offense in Pittsburgh had Kordell Stewart rolling out and I remember him trying that with Lead-Footed Troy and I thought this is never going to work.

He was in a tough spot. Team's talent was being poached left and right. Jones was still meddling. The drafts were poor. We were so tight on cap we couldn't even sneeze.

The players didn't like CHANGE, resisting his style (or any style for that matter).

Scissorgate was being covered up when Irvin almost killed McIver.

There was all sorts of hookers and cocaine behind the scenes, and the character wasn't snowy white on the team.

He did quite well, and had the offense playing fairly well. He just was stubborn with Irvin on the field, which cost us, and the players just didn't like the change, so I don't think they played with full heart for the guy.

He is clever and apparently works his butt off.

I don't dislike him, but will forever be made that when it was 3rd down, Irvin, and often Emmitt were parked on the bench.

Good for Chan - I felt he never got a decent shot here. It was just the wrong situation for a guy who could have done well elsewhere.

Sounds like Herm Edwards has picked a good OC. I'm sure after 6 years out of the NFL that Gailey will be able to really upgrade the KC offense (sarcasim). Can't help thinking there some better OC talent around the NFL which could help them a lot more then Gailey.

I guess we'll never know for sure, but if he had any kind of significant involvement in the '98 and '99 drafts and free agency periods, keeping in mind that he had to be trying to get a word in edgewise against Jerry and Lacewell when it came to personnel, then he did a halfway decent job (relative to our drafts in '95-'97 and '00-'02):

'98 Draft
Greg Ellis
Flozell Adams
Izell Reese

'99 Draft
Ebenezer Ekuban (decent, just not 1st round material)
Dat Nyguen
Solomon Page (was a nice player for a few years when he felt like it)
Wane McGarrity

'98 Free Agency
Patrick Jeffers
Mike Kiselak (filled in nicely for Shiver mid-season that year)
Ernie Mills
Chris Warren

'99 Free Agency
Mark Stepnoski
Raghib Ismail
James McKnight

Too bad Priest Holmes had to retire...I could see Chan using him in direct snaps and option plays if he were healthy.
