MANNINGHAM’S WONDERLIC SCORE “REAL AND DESERVED”
Posted by Mike Florio on April 26, 2008, 10:55 a.m.
Comments from league insiders continue to flow into PFT headquarters regarding the disclosure that Michigan receiver Mario Manningham (who might not even be able to spell his name correctly on a consistent basis) scored a six in the Wonderlic.
A league source has further confirmed that Mario did indeed pick a six, saying that the score is “real and deserved.”
Per the source, Manningham showed low intelligence in some of his team visits, which will not help him reverse a steep slide of what once was believed to be a round-one draft stock.
But there’s no denying that Manningham is a phenomenal athlete. Even if he might ultimately need to have the ten letters in his last name tattooed on his fingers and thumbs.
LONG IS THE PICK AT NO. 2

After a flurry of reports indicating that the Rams are leaning to defensive end Chris Long at No. 2, Michael Smith of ESPN unequivocally reports that the Rams will pick Howie’s son with the second pick in the draft.
Somewhere, there’s an intern at ESPN figuring out the last time two guys with the same last name were drafted back-to-back.
Long addresses a huge need for the Rams, but Dorsey would as well. And Dorsey is supposedly rated higher on the Rams’ board than Long.

FALCONS EXPECTED TO TAKE RYAN

Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to delay the start of the draft until 3:00 p.m. EDT after all.
Now that there’s nearly a full business day for decisions to be made and reporters to seek information before the first pick is made, teams are making decisions about whom they’ll pick — and the folks who thrive on gathering information are getting it out there.
And so we now know what the first three picks in the draft will be, thanks to a report from Adam Schefter of NFL Network that the Falcons will select quarterback Matt Ryan, even with defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey expected to still be on the board.
It’s likely a business move, not a football move, for a franchise that was decimated by the Mike Vick fiasco. And the arrival of Ryan slams the door on any chance of Vick returning to play football at some point in the future.
Unless Ryan ends up in jail, for something like dog fighting.

RAVENS, SAINTS TO SWAP PICKS?
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 26, 2008, 12:02 p.m.
With just three hours to go before the start of the draft, trade talk is getting fast and furious, and John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Saints and Ravens could make a deal.
The Ravens want to draft a quarterback and they don’t think they’ll be able to nab their first choice, Matt Ryan of Boston College, with the eighth pick in the draft. That would then lead the Ravens to try to trade down and select their second-rated quarterback, Chad Henne of Michigan, and Clayton reports that they’d be willing to take Henne as high as 10th, the pick the Saints own.
That would be viewed as a major reach by just about every draft analyst, but according to Clayton, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
The Saints have made no secret this week that they’re willing to buck the recent trend of teams not wanting to trade up in the draft. New Orleans seems to think that it needs to bolster its defensive line and that the top four prospects — Virginia’s Chris Long, LSU’s Glenn Dorsey, Ohio State’s Vernon Gholston and USC’s Sedrick Ellis — will all be gone in the first nine picks.
One stumbling block in such a trade happening is that the standard draft trade chart would call for the Saints to throw in a fourth-round pick to make such a move, but the Saints have already traded their fourth-round pick to the Jets.
