Commanders-Cowboys one-liners

Posted by Josh Alper on November 23, 2009 10:12 AM ET
QB Jason Campbell was intercepted by Cowboys LB Anthony Spencer with under two minutes to play to assure a 7-6 Commanders loss.

Said Campbell after the Commanders fell to 3-7, "Other than a couple of plays, we pretty much beat them. It's been a crazy season. We keep losing one player after another."

On the game's crucial play, Commanders LB Brian Orakpo nearly sacked Cowboys QB Tony Romo before Romo delivered a touchdown pass.

Commanders K Shaun Suisham missed a pair of field goals, the first two kicks he's missed all season.

Commanders RB Rock Cartwright, thrust into a featured role by injuries to Ladell Betts and Clinton Portis, ran 13 times for 67 yards and added seven catches for 73 yards.

Romo needed a pain-killing shot to his back after throwing for 158 yards, his lowest career total in a Cowboys victory.

Cowboys S Alan Ball and T Doug Free each performed well in their first NFL starts.

The Cowboys defense has struggled to stop opponents late this season, but they were able to do it on Sunday.

Said Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, "A couple of turnovers got us. Third-down stuff got us. But I think the guys did a good job of banging away, and eventually they found a way to help us win the ballgame. But we have to improve."

Randy Galloway of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram doesn't think the Cowboys are going anywhere with their offense.

What? Really? Other than Tampa Bay and NYG, when did that happen? Sheesh. The defense has been outstanding the majority of the season.

KC and Denver come to mind.

Alright, I'll concede those, although we did hold KC when we needed to. But it is still not like it's a common occurrence.

They've been playing well ever since the Atlanta game.

No way do you concede KC: a game we won, where the defense held when it counted on the final possession.

That game should have never went into overtime. It's the D's fault we ever went into OT with that team. They stepped it up in OT.

And stopped the Chiefs late?

I said they stepped it up in OT, but they failed to stop KC on the game-tying drive. Above-average defenses don't give up a game-tying touchdown on 4th and 10. But they've come a long way since then.

It's been a common occurrence for years....Defense typically plays well and collapses at the end. They are just now gaining confidence

So does anyone think Tebow or Bradford will have good careers in Washington, I mean replacing the great Jason Campbell is going to be a daunting task.

Jason Campbell got broken by that horrible franchise and whoever they choose in the draft will suffer the same fate.

I look forward to April to watch them reach for a QB.

They have come a long way. Regardless, when they hold the other team on the drive that ends the game, you can't fairly fault them for cracking when it counts that week.

Deadskins "Except for losing, we pretty much beat you." http://img691.*************/img691/3959/zv3dxi.gif
