PFT: Cowboys have begun talks with Osa

Not sure how I feel about this. Osa is slightly above average. We definitely need another hard nosed DT. Otherwise, stopping the run will continue to be this team's achille's heel.

In other words overpay Osa, Rico, Lewis, Lawrence, and sign a bunch of low level free agents or guys that once had a name but coming off big injury to one year deals. Then signing Parsons to the the largest deal for a defensive player in NFL history, thereby Solidifying a future of continued mediocrity.
That’s free agency though. Can’t say you want to be apart of it and penny pinch. Gotta overpay.

His production has been so incredible, we must lock up this amazing talent.
Hard rocker? You trying to pay for your tickets and twinkle stuff?

He has been solid and in this handicap season, one of the top three defensive tackles in the NFL.

I've been hot and cold on Osa. Hes good but not great and 16 million seems like a lot. Maybe it's just me. The whole "almost Anthony" comparison rings loudly. However, this is the problem we have at DT. We farm these guys and they go elsewhere if they aren't complete whiffs.
Sort of....I get being hot and cold with OSA but with a salary cap approaching $300M I wouldnt hesitate locking guys up for that amount if they are even average starters who flash more at times like OSA does. I think $16M sounds like more than it is with the CAP just exploding 10% or so every year. Seems like DTs in OSAs range (not Chris Jones, maybe just a notch below a Derrick Brown) seem to get guaranteed money about 60% of the overall contract. It really shouldnt be too hard to get out of that contract after a couple of years if his performance isnt there, even with a backloaded cap hit.

Could it be a case of if we sign him, Micah might get shopped? Not sure we can do both deals and remain viable in free agency. Or what if we got an impasse with OSA, let him walk, then sign Micah ? I can see this too.

So you're saying I'm not going to be ready for camp?
Your referenced quote was about a Dallas player. Play much with words?

But to your distraction, I'm betting it's been years since you even ran 5 miles. Yea, to your comment.

In the Army, we gave a bladder award for the biggest butt in the after game bar attendance.

I am not going to fall for this again. Starting negotiations and signing anyone are very different things. Once Osa tell them he wants $21 million per year, the negotiations will end. Then they will set their sights on Golston who will tell them he wants $11 million and those talks will end too. They will tell us "we tried" and that will be it. Truthfully, I would rather they sign Golston than Lawrence. Lawrence is going to want a lot of money I think.

I am fine not signing Osa at $21 million. But then they have to use some serious draft capital on DT. This is the year to do that. They should do it even if they sign Osa.

I am not sure I would re-sign Dowdle. He is really just a backup. Watch the video of Kyle Monangai from Rutgers. He is a Rico Dowdle clone to me, and they can get him late in the draft for much less money than Dowdle will want. But I would still use a higher pick on a RB1. Dowdle doesn't scare anyone.

To be honest I would hope so. I'm skeptical that this is the case, and most likely we resign our own and mostly sit out FA again. Huge Micah fan, I'm not hating on the guys play, but I would love to see this team mix it up and try a new formula. Hes the one guy you could really trade and get a massive haul for that could completely overhaul this teams identity.

The problem is it's the same old rinse and repeat, overpaying guys that didn't get the job done in the past
You are right and I get that. But it’s a tough spot because we know this team doesn’t like to pay for other guys free agents…..and they only like to get better in the draft. Chances are these free agents are guys other teams don’t want or feel deserve another contract. So that’s the dilemma. But some of these guys they do need to move on from. They can’t bring the same team back.

The thing is though if you already have a Rico and we only have so many draft picks to use you might be better off giving Rico his 4 million then drafting someone his caliber and use that on another hole.

Honestly this is why I think the tag will ultimately get used on OSA. Its cheaper for Jerry to tag a guy to a 1 year deal instead of paying full guaranteed money on a multi year deal to even a mid tier FA. It also gives Jerry an excuse to not spend elsewhere as OSA took up such a big piece of the pie this year.

Agree completely. With a weak FA RB class Rico may surprise us and price himself out of Dallas, but I dont understand being afraid of paying Rico if hes in that $4-6M range. Lots of teams are paying their #2 RBs that or more. I think fans struggle to adjust to new prices as the cap goes up. Really we could both resign Rico for $6M, draft a RB in the 1st round and still have one of the cheaper RB rooms in the league.

No it isn't. I don't have to instead start crying and not even join in with punk hard rock. I still like Cocker, Hendrix, and Joplin. I don't consume any illegal drugs on sharing there.

The cost of top producing players is high. Win or not.

You saying agents kick Jerry's butts?
