PFT: Cowboys have begun talks with Osa

So maybe, just maybe we can replace his 4 sacks with someone who is gonna make 18 million less a season. And maybe, just maybe we can get a guy whos bigger than 6ft 1inch and 278 pounds to help cure the run stopping problem we have.

Allen and Osa would rewrite the Dallas defense, here and now!

Since entering the NFL in 2017, Allen has been remarkably consistent, save his injury-shortened 2024.
Jonathan Allen, a former 1st round pick, has been granted permission for him and his agent to seek a trade partner

His ability to disrupt plays from the interior of the defensive line would be a game-changer for the Cowboys, and something they have been missing for nearly a decade. This shows that not only can Allen clog running lanes, but he can also rush the quarterback, giving him a deadly combination of skills. Pairing Allen with a dynamic pass-rusher like EDGE Micah Parsons would cause immediate nightmares for opposing offenses.

At 6’3″ and 315lbs, Allen has the size and power to clog running lanes and occupy more than one blocker on his way to the ball-carrier. His skillset makes him a formidable force in stopping both inside and outside runs. This would allow new DC Matt Eberflus to be more versatile in his scheme. Think of how Chauncey Golston was used in Dallas, and now imagine Golston being much better than what he is. That’s how it would feel for Allen to play on this defense.

According to Spotrac.com., Allen is set to count $22.353 million against the cap. That’s a number that would make Stephen Jones cringe, and I guarantee they’d prefer to just sign Osa to an extension at that amount. If the Cowboys pull off this trade, they could also just extend Allen beyond 2025. He just turned 30, but a three-year deal would allow Dallas to spread the cap hit in their favor.

We have to get away from sack numbers for these interior guys. Jalen Carter is viewed as a top DT in the league and a generational talent by some....he had a half sack more than OSA did this year and he played more than 200 additional snaps than OSA. The run defense concerns are valid, but the run defense issues go way beyond the issues at 3T. Plus for a Eberflus defense OSA is one of the best fits you can find even in the run game as he will likely be asked to penetrate more than read and two gap it.

The run game issues are 100% due to Osas shortcomings in the run defense. Run defense starts from the inside out and him being one of the 2 closest to the ball and being out weighed by a good 60-80 lbs is exactly why our run defense is so poor. We really need to get larger bodies on the inside, its an easy, very easy pass on Osa. He is not a game changer at all and wherever he goes he will not produce to the point that we would ever say dam, wish we kept him. Easy pass.

I get OSA is part of the run game problems but hes 100% of the issue? It has nothing to do with the fact that Mazi has been horrible, our DEs have been mostly pass first players, and our LBs have been mostly mediocre since hes been drafted?

Honestly OSA is one of the few pieces I'm actually thinking will get a boost in production from Eberflus. The real issue here isnt OSA, the real issue is Jerry/Stephen need to acknowledge that signing OSA doesnt fix anything more work needs done both on defense in general and at the DT position. They should look to get another DT on the roster who can keep OSAs snaps closer to 700 or so.

Doesn't mean anything, we've been poor against the run for over 3 seasons now.
No, what is used is a 20 year excuse. The Dallas Cowboys did win 12 games for 3 consecutive years.

What is referenced is a continuation of a team named the Washington Commanders. Their name changed but you haven't.

Doesn't mean a thing? No, you don't.
