In an offseason that has seen plenty of defensive coordinator jobs open up, another one has become available, in an unexpected location.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan have "mutually decided" to part ways.

The move comes after a season in which Nolan's presence increased the team's performance from No. 29 to No. 7 in total defense.

The reason for the separation isn't known (yet), but the development puts Nolan in play for vacancies in Miami, Buffalo, and Chicago.

Nolan, who uses a base 3-4 scheme, would be a good fit with the Dolphins.

He also could be a fit in Arizona, if coach Ken Whisenhunt decides to dump Bill Davis after the Cardinals surrendered 90 points in two postseason games -- and if Whisenhunt opts to embrace the 3-4 approach used by his former team, the Steelers.

In Arizona, Nolan would be returning the the NFC West, where he served as head coach of the 49ers from 2005 through the first seven games of 2008.

That explains it. I have just seen several posts moved and I was wondering if this was a moderators can do anything they want type of deal. I see it is not.

I think he wants to be a HC, or be in the position on a team where he can eventually become HC.

While his forte is 3-4 defenses, He wouldn't be a good fit here.

Actually no, it's not a mod thing. We're a little more relaxed in the offseason, depending on the topic.

Also, because of the annual coaching churn, there's always interest as to where a coach might end and how their presence might impact the 'boys.

Disagree. If for some reason Wade was gone, he'd be the ideal fit here.

Nolan's dad was an assistant with Landry at one time. Alot of people who are fans of the team like his kid because of that.

I liked him as a HC in SF. He is a solid coach. And he wears a suit.

I meant it would not be a good fit because Wade is still here. I just don't see Jerry getting rid of Wade right now.

Now if Wade is gone, then it's an entirely different story. I would like Nolan as HC over Garrett.

i think him as a DC here would be nice. his knowledge and wades could be a lethal defense and if Jason does take over his DC is already here. JMO

A hideous suit, though.

he did not have much choice considering he was only allowed to wear sits designed by Reebok.

Its never going to happen but I would love chucky and this guy here instaed of our current lineup.
