Here's Saints quarterback Drew Brees, on the troubles of facing a 3-4 defense. Take it away, Drew:

"Well, you know, you try to kind of visualize that 3-4 as a 4-3, " Brees said this week, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "So who becomes that fourth pass rusher? And just kind of understanding how 3-4 defenses bring pressure. Typically, variable, to making it seem almost like they are bringing more than they are. As you look at a 4-3 defense, there's four down and then, you know, the three linebackers. When you look at a 3-4, there's five guys on the line of scrimmage and two at linebacker level.

"So all of a sudden, you start rotating safeties, and you can bring two from a side, but then you're actually dropping one out on the backside, and so in your mind you might, you know, be in a zone pressure, and in that case you're thinking, 'oh, man, it feels like they're bringing six, ' but they're only bringing five because they dropped somebody out."

"You know, it's just different if you don't see it all that often."

My only criticism of our defense is we seem to run one of the more predictable 3-4 defenses in the league. Typically Ware is on one side with Spencer on the other, and we'll either rush 4 or 5. When we're really desperate for pressure, Wade will send either Brooking or Bradie up the middle. Pretty much that's it. I think I read a stat that we only send our CB/S on blitzes like 2% of the time. But while predictable, it's still very effective so it's hard to really complain much about the defense. But for a defense that's been desperate for more turnovers the past 2-3 seasons, you would think creating more free rushers by sending Ss and CBs on blitzes would lead to more sack/fumbles and errant throws(INTs).

Risk/reward thing.

You feel comfortable with Brooking/James out in space or Sensabaugh covering WRs?
