EMMITT IS EXPECTED TO BE DONE AT ESPN
Posted by Mike Florio on January 18, 2009, 12:38 p.m.
In response to our speculation from earlier in the day that we might not be seeing much more of Emmitt Smith on ESPN after Super Bowl XLIII, we’re told that Smith’s contract is believed to be only a two-year deal.
This means that, after the 2008 season ends, Emmitt’s deal would be expired. And, most likely, that his time in Bristol will be concluded.
“It’s almost over for sure,” a source with knowledge of the situation tells us.
We’re told that Emmitt hasn’t been unmanageable in his attitude. But his inability to communicate effectively on an extemporaneous basis has done him in.
In 2007, Emmitt was a member of ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown crew and on-site Monday night coverage. This year, he has been moved from Countdown to SportsCenter on Sunday mornings, and he kept his Monday night assignment.
