YOUNG EXPOSES EMMITT AS A HOMER

In a weekly radio spot on KNBR in San Francisco, ESPN's Steve Young disclosed that on-air partner Emmitt Smith was openly rooting for the Cowboys during Monday night's come-from-behind win against the Bills.

Here's what Young had to say about Emmitt's behavior late in the contest.

"He's sitting next to me," Young said, "and we're watching the end of the game, and he's like -- he's like dying. You know, they lose the two-point conversion that got knocked down and he's like, 'Oh! Oh! What now?' And I'm like, 'Dude, you know you played for the Cardinals in between? It's okay, you'll be all right.'

"When they kicked that field goal [to win the game]," Young added. "He went running out on the field."

So much for objectivity.

But, in fairness to Young, he wasn't complaining about Emmitt.

"It didn't bother me," Young said. "I chuckled."

And, in our view, Young uses "chuckle" in the condescending sense. As in "poor, pitiful, misguided Emmitt, who still thinks he's on the team even though they ran him out of town when they decided that he no longer had it."

When Tiki Barber refers to the Giants on-air he says "we." It's one thing to root for the team off the camera, and it's another to do it on-screen.

I'm appalled by Emmitt's behavior. He should be fired from ESPN because he does not understand ESPN's respect for impartiality.

**** PFT already!

Jaws during the entire game was openly cheering for the bills. Everyone showing their Dallas hate as soon as we stumbled from "the top." Romo was compared to Grossman and Edwards was the new Brady (except he only had 3 offensive points). When Brad put on his helmet Romo was getting benched, and according to ESPN Brad NEVER puts on his helmet. Except for the fact that he is the holder and he puts on his helmet every single field goal attempt. IDIOT ESPN.

Emmitt is a Cowboy and will always be a Cowboy. I was happy to hear he was celebrating, like i was happy to see Irvin celebrating, and proud he represents us in the biased media. I can easily expose PFT as being homers but then I would be as childish as they are.

Well, Young was rooting against us, so that just made it even.

You can feel the animosity on the air between these two-----especially Young against the Cowboys. He gives compliments to any Cowboy very grudgingly, if any... I think he is jealous he can only claim 1 Super Bowl ring that he earned and Emmitt has 3.

He also seems to veil his hatred for the 'Boys with this so-called humor.

Young should thank Emmitt every time they sit down next to each other that he even has ONE SB ring. It was Emmitt(not his fault, but his team) and Company that blew that game allowing Steve to advance and get easy SB win against the bolts.

Emmit is a Cowboys, always was, always will be!

At least he wasn't acting that way during the broadcast.

Jaworski was openingly rooting for the Bills while on air. That was totally classless.

Yeah he was, but I have no issue with it.

That was a wild, crazy game and his team, which he won three rings with have a right to be excited about the result, I see nothing wrong with Emmitt's celebration.

Ya know, I don't either. I've heard alot of complaining around here because of the espn crew maybe sublimally rooting for the bills, but look at it this way........a 4-0 team vs a 1-3 team dessimated by injuries and a 2nd start qb.

Who are they going to root for? David vs Goliath. Its always fun to root for David, especially when he's at home.

Its sports and above that its football(best sport on earth) I like homers in the broadcast booths of the nation. I like it when guys have ties to teams, who the hell cares if a guy roots for a team, we all do it, I enjoy it in the announcers too. I love when they guys act like humans, it makes it that much more real and satisfying for me when my team stomps theirs. I loved Irvin on espn, he loves the cowboys and doesn't sugar coat it, and I loved him for it.
I feel the same way for any other homer announcer, I am proud of them and for how their team's fans can relate.

I don't give a damn about what is proper in broadcasting, just be real and just be a person.

So what, America had to listen to Jaws jabber on and on about the Bills the whole game, how come there's no article on his lack of objectivity?

Yeah but Hos, it's one thing to root for a team you played for and will always be associated with, but it's another thing to openly root against a team to show your hate. Especially when you are on supposedly pro footballs biggest stage and you are supposed to be objective.

If Jaws had played for the Bills I could cut him some slack on this one but, Jaws never played for the Bills.

Just my 2 cents and with inflation and a cost of living adjustment it's really about .25 cents but I digress.

Sounds pretty a hole-ish.
It's not like Emmitt was doing this while tape was rolling, it was during the game. He did nothing wrong and Young's just being an @-ss for making something no one would know about, known. No big deal, just sophomoric crap.

He grew up in the Buffalo area they mentioned during the game.

Even if he hadn't it wouldn't bother me.

Don't understand why it's "a hole-ish". He thought it was funny so he told a reporter about it. Big friggin deal. I find it amusing as well and I'm glad he let it out so I could enjoy the story. Telling him to chill out is not "a hole-ish" either. It's meant to be funny. "Hey, you played for the Cardinals too remember?". That's funny.

The whole story amuses me and I see nothing wrong anywhere with what Steve Young said or did. I just think a lot of Cowboys have some serious hate going on when it comes to Steve Young when he's not a bad guy.

Absolutely!! If Jaws wants to root for the Bills, he should buy a ticket and sit in the stands like everyone else.
