At least three NFL teams are using remote-controlled aircraft to film practices. And that practice has drawn the attention of the Federal Aviation Administration. If I were the rest of the NFL I'd be concerned. If the Pats have drone technology there's a real risk that they're using it to film more than just their own practices.

The FAA must be very busy nowadays. There are lots of companies using drones for commercial use. I know real estate agents who use drones to take photos of properties. Companies have used drones to get pictures of weddings and events. FOX Sports was using drones just last weekend in some of their footage of the U.S. Open. The FAA must spend all day issuing these waivers.

Hasn't Amazon started doing drone deliveries around some cities in the US? Guess that's not commercial enough

The powers that be finally realized the essential danger of having unapproved, inexpensive surveillance devices in the hands of any and everyone. They are trying to play catch up, using various excuses like 'air safety'. Horse may already be fully out of the barn on that one though.
