If he's stupid enough to yell that to McCarthy, I'm fine with the firing. People should have more sense than that.

I know I'm in the minority and most will want to defend the "common man," but it was out of line and would have ended the same way at a traditional job.

Can you imagine if the average employee called up someone from their corporate headquarters whom they'd never met and told them to "not lay an egg"?

You've got to have the thinnest skin there is to fire someone over a comment like "don't lay an egg" even though this is not what the guy said. If this is the kind of thing that makes you go and sabotage a guy's livlihood then you shouldn't have such a high stress job like head coach in the NFL.

Also, as shady as this whole thing sounds, I just don't understand why McCarthy would make this up. What benefit is it for him to pick a random worker and make up a comment like that? Also, if he did make it up, certainly he could think of something more offensive than "don't lay an egg"

If McCarthy had claimed the guy said "Don't **** up", I doubt the firing would be under question.

Nobody is saying McCarthy just made it up out of the blue. The article/story says McCarthy misheard what the guy said, then had him fired believing he said something he didn't. Not once did anybody or the article say McCarthy just randomly picked somebody to fire and then made a false story about the reason.

I hope he gets a good lawyer. It wasn't offensive-even if that is exactly what he said. How does him saying those things imact his ability to roll out tarps and cut grass? I smell a lawsuit.

$50 says McCarthy was trying some Disney movie crap where he goes to centerfield, shuts his eyes real tight and listens to the grass talk. This guy probably jumped in just as Lombardi himself was getting ready to pass along the Holy Grail of coaching knowledge.

It's difficult to believe at face value anythign Florio reports on. Just the way it is, unfortunately.

Florio is quoting a newspaper and I believe they are the biggest newspaper in Wisconsin.

It's when Florio starts reporting stuff without quoting a newspaper it's usually something to take with a grain of salt.

I think there's more to the story than this.

Green Bay is the type of team that they get their arse kissed by the local media relentlessly until they disappoint, then they start to go after coaches and players with everything they have until they are given the boot.

Most other NFL teams do this as well, but the local Dallas media goes after the Cowboys regardless if they are winning or losing.

From his PC....pure awesomeness.

(What's your reaction to the controversy surrounding the firing of Mike Wood?)
I'd like to address it. I was made aware of it this morning on my radio show, or a radio show I do in Milwaukee. I was taken back by it, naturally. I walk through that loading dock every day, and I had a conversation. A comment was made, I commented back, got in the car and had a chance to inquire to Allen about what the man's name was, and that's my involvement.

(He says he didn't make the comment. Are you sure it was him that made that comment?)
Yes.

(You heard him say, 'Don't lay an egg'?)
I was hoping you guys wouldn't go this far with this. I'm going to be honest with you. He is ... I don't really know the man. He made a comment to me, I made a comment to him. It's not the worst thing ever said. But I would not say that to a fellow employee. That's as far as I'm going to go with it.

(Did you ask anyone for him to be fired or disciplined?)
Absolutely not.

(Do you think the Packers are becoming overly sensitive?)
I don't think so.

(Did you suggest or recommend to Allen Johnson or Ted Eisenreich that he be dismissed?)
It was a one-minute conversation, and that's the last I heard of it. I asked what his name was.

(What exactly did you hear him say?)
Like I said, it's not the worst thing ever said, but I wouldn't say it to a fellow employee.

(Do you think the organization's course of action was correct?)
I'm not involved in that decision, and frankly I had zero intention, zero conversation and zero ... conversation, intention, anything to do with that.

(Wouldn't you say you played a part in that decision?)
It's not my responsibility. No I didn't.

(Hearing his remarks in the paper today, would you like to see him get his job back?)
I've addressed it. Once again, I had one conversation, I inquired about what the man's name was. That's as far as I took the conversation, and now I'm answering questions about it.

(You said something back to him. What did you say?)
Once again, he made a comment, I commented back to him, I walked to my car, another comment was made, and that was it.

Green Bay is a team that is still, pretty much, owned by the town/city, right? I wonder how that will go off with the citizens. Maybe we'll see them march on McCarthy with pitchforks.

I always thought he came off as a total jerk.

Can't stand the guy and hope we roll them this weekend.

I always got that feeling about McCarthy as well. Plus, the way he handled the whole Favre thing was pretty classless too (not discounting Ted Thompson either). I'm glad Favre helped the Vikes sweep the Pack.

Loved how the media was all over McCarthy's jock during Favre's last season with GB. Even now, A.F. (After Favre), the media still loves McCarthy, Rogers, and GB. Hopefully the Cowboys help put a stop to that this Sunday.

I hate his fat face and "the pack" more than anyone, but they'll be more than ready I'll guarantee you that. Should be interesting: they are more than desperate.....

You won't see this on ESPN. It's one of their teams (Packers, Steelers, Patriots, Eagles).

Do "franks and beans" go with eggs?

I will now refer to McCarthy as Coach Franks & Beans. Thank you.

Not if it's a right to work state. Then hire and fire can be without cause.

That has nothing to do with the backlash of the community. By itself it would mean nothing but in the face of a losing or non-playoff season it could be detrimental to him.
